今回は、ハロウィンに観たい「ShaneのおすすめホラームービーTOP10👻🎥」第3位です！

実はこちら、映画大好きShaneの持ち込み企画です。ハロウィンだし「おすすめホラームービー」を紹介したいということで、Shaneが映画の解説を1作品ずつ作ってくれました📝。ハロウィンは終わってしまいましたが、1位までもうしばらくお付き合い頂けますと幸いです😅！

🎃第3位🎃
Scream (邦題:スクリーム)
Year of release: 1996
Director: Wes Craven

Over a decade after he perfected the teen slasher with A Nightmare on Elm
Street, Wes Craven again returned to the genre in 1996 and gave it another
masterpiece – Scream. But whereas Elm Street was a slasher that set, or
reinstated, the framework for what to expect in a teen slasher, Scream took it
apart, or, more accurately, pointed at the framework and made fun of it. It
was self-referential in a time before meta-humour became popular. And it
was all the more ironic since Wes Craven, a man who helped build those
cliches, was the one to shake them up. Craven worked here from a script
written by Kevin Williamson (famed for writing teen-oriented drama series’
such as Dawson’s Creek or The Vampire Diaries), and created what is now
considered the quintessential teen slasher. It’s very funny, very clever and
very bloody, and it features a well-rounded cast (again of mostly younger
actors) who have great chemistry together. It isn’t as weird as Elm Street,
and the violent scenes, where the young cast members inevitably get killed
off one by one, aren’t as inventive as Craven’s 1984 masterpiece, but that’s
because Scream does focus more on the characters and it allows time for
the story to breath more, which is why I’m placing it ahead of Elm Street. It’s
a more focused film, with a stronger sense of character and a witty script
from Kevin Williamson…. though it does threaten to become too infatuated
with its own meta-humour at times, Craven does manage to keep it in line.

A Nightmare on Elm Street (邦題:エルム街の悪夢)
Year of release: 1984
Director: Wes Craven

We’ve now reached the true classics of Halloween movie marathons; the
undisputed kings of October 31st night-ins. The late Wes Craven is a true
horror legend, and A Nightmare on Elm Street is still his masterpiece for
many. He perfected the teen-slasher with this movie, and the modern slasher
movie owes a lot to what Craven did here. Not only is the movie a roller
coaster ride that is deliriously entertaining and wildly imaginative, it also
delivers the scares with a hefty amount of gore while also sneaking in some
clever allegories on teenage promiscuity. Elm Street is a strange movie, but
the weirdness does work in its favour; for large parts, it does give off the vibe
of a fever dream. The excellent cast – mostly comprised of younger actors
(including a young Johnny Depp in his feature film debut) – are just the right
amount of serious and silly to match the movie’s bizarre tone. You can enjoy
it as a fun John Hughes-esque 80s high-school movie, but also, for those
horror lovers out there, Elm Street still delivers the scares – and its scariest
(and bloodiest) moments are not easily forgotten!

Trick ‘r Treat (邦題:ブライアン・シンガーのトリック・オア・トリート)
Year of release: 2007
Director: Michael Dougherty

Tick ‘r Treat is a pure Halloween movie. It’s designed to be watched on
Halloween nights – much like Home Alone’s relationship with the Christmas
season. No Halloween watchlist would be complete without this modern
classic now. In spite of all this, Trick ‘r Treat does remain largely under
appreciated and it remains a movie that is not widely seen. It’s genuinely
terrifying at times, but also surprisingly funny. The movie is an anthology
movie comprised of four stories that are all linked through the creepy and
mysterious central character. This is a movie born out of love for the
Halloween season, and out of love for scary stories – for that reason, its
scary elements are executed to perfection and the whole movie is
punctuated with a surprising amount of detail. If there’s any movie on this list
that I implore people to see this Halloween season, it would be this one!
Partly because it’s under appreciated, but also because it’s the most
“Halloween” Halloween movie on this list.

Ghostbusters (邦題: ゴーストバスターズ)

Director: Ivan Reitman

This is the movie for those that wish to get into the Halloween spirit on
October the 31st but don’t like scary movies! Ghostbusters is a classic movie
that everybody loves. Its sense of fun is genuinely infectious, and the
chemistry between its lead characters is the driving force of the movie. The
special effects can only be described as groundbreaking for its time, and the
zany inventiveness of the movie – surging through the movie’s veins with the
energy of that of an elementary school student at a science fair – have
allowed the movie to endure as part of our pop-culture for decades. Bill
Murray is at his absolute best here, and director Ivan Reitman has a good
eye for comedy. It’s funny, charming, and romantic with just a hint of the
spooky or macabre. Not just a staple for Halloween movie nights, but a truly
must-see movie for all!

Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives (邦題: 13日の金曜日PART6／ジェイソンは生きていた！)
Year of release: 1986
Director: Tom McLoughlin

The Friday the 13th franchise is an odd one, if I’m being honest. It’s a
universally known horror franchise – arguably the most famous horror series!
Ask anybody to name a few horror movies that they think should be on a
Halloween watchlist, and I guarantee you Friday the 13th will be one of the
films they say. The funny thing is that Sean S. Cunningham’s original Friday
the 13th (1980) is not a good movie – it also, contrary to popular belief, does
not feature Jason Voorhees as the main antagonist (Jason appears in that
movie briefly at the end). In all honesty, none of the Friday the 13th movies
are good movies in my opinion. Most of, if not all, the movies on this list are
better movies than this movie; but Friday the 13th Part VI – Jason Lives is the
best Friday the 13th movie! It’s the best because it doesn’t take itself too
seriously. It’s almost satirical of slasher movies and it’s gleefully unapologetic
of its violent campiness; this movie is about an undead Jason Voorhees
killing young campers in absurd ways… what more do you want from a
Friday the 13th movie?! And you may be asking why I put this movie so high
up on the list if I don’t think it’s a particular good movie. Well, a Halloween
watchlist shouldn’t be about objectively good movies. Given the right
context, I enjoy campy trash. And Jason Lives is hugely enjoyable campy
trash! It’s in many ways the perfect Halloween night movie!!

The Conjuring (邦題: 死霊館)
Year of release: 2013
Director: James Wan

Horror movies seem to always be defined by the time they were released in.
There was the slasher movie craze in the 1980s, and the torture-porn boom
in the 2000s. Noticed that horror movies these days (or the popular ones at
least) seem to always be about a haunted house? You can thank James Wan
for that (him and a little horror series called Paranormal Activity [Wan also
created the hugely popular Insidious series of supernatural horror films]).
James Wan’s The Conjuring was released in 2013 to great commercial and
critical success – a rarity for the horror genre. All supernatural horror movies
since have tried to emulate the success of The Conjuring, but none have
been able to recapture the magic of this movie. It holds the distinction of
being a genuinely scary, atmospheric movie that is also finely crafted with
powerful performances. The production design and cinematography help
elevate this creepy story (apparently based on true events) and support
Wan’s patient and detailed direction. It’s a quiet movie, filled with dread and
tension. Don’t watch it alone this Halloween!

Monster House (邦題:モンスターハウス )
Year of release: 2006
Director: Gil Kenan

Think classic Spielbergian/Goonies-esque sense of adventure meets Tim Burton suburban weirdness. Monster House is a joyous Halloween romp for all ages, and one that basks in its Autumn amber tinged light. The cosy late October atmosphere is almost palpable here, and this spooky movie is brimming with life thanks to its three charming young lead characters. The animation is terrific (albeit, some characters do admittedly have [unintentionally?] creepy faces), and the movie moves at a brisk pace. It may not be that scary, but it beats most other movies for bringing the warmth and sense of excitement that Halloween is also responsible for at this time of year.

Dawn of the Dead (邦題:ゾンビ)
Year of release: 1978
Director: George A. Romero

George A. Romero – dubbed “Godfather of the Dead” – made his seminal masterpiece Dawn of the Dead in 1978, a full decade after his feature film directorial debut and the first in the The Living Dead series – Night of the Living Dead (1968). Though Night is still considered the most revolutionary, Dawn would become the benchmark for all modern zombie movies. The film is not only one of the finest horror movies ever made, it also ranks as one of the greatest films period, and one that remains eminently watchable to this day due to its biting (pun intended) social commentary on modern day consumerism, its stomach churning practical effects and its pure sense of entertainment. It’s one of the rare horror movies that proved genre movies can be an art form, and it remains a staple for all October 31st movie nights!

本日のポケモン英語も、11月に発売されるポケモンの新作ゲーム「スカーレット・バイオレット」のポケモンの英語名をご紹介！今ならまだ知らない人も多いので、最新ポケモンの英語名を先取りして予習しちゃいましょう！

ちなみに、御三家ポケモンとは、ゲーム開始直後に最初のパートナーとしてもらえるポケモンで、英語では「Starter Pokémon」と言われています。「スカーレットバイオレット」の御三家ポケモンは、「ニャオハ、クワッス、ホゲータ」で、今回は名前に英語だけでなくスペイン語も使われているようです。

最終日の本日は、ほのおタイプの「ホゲータ」をご紹介致します。

ほのおワニポケモンの「ホゲータ」の日本語名は、「ほげー」＋「alligator（ワニ）」の造語ですが、英語名は全部スペイン語由来なのですね🐊。のんびりやでマイペース。食べることが大好きで、エサを見つけた途端、目を輝かせて飛んでいくそうです。かわいいですね😊。Cydneyはホゲータが一番かわいいと言っておりました。みなさんは「ニャオハ、クワッス、ホゲータ」の中でどれが好きですか？

本日のポケモン英語も、11月に発売されるポケモンの新作ゲーム「スカーレット・バイオレット」のポケモンの英語名をご紹介！今ならまだ知らない人も多いので、最新ポケモンの英語名を先取りして予習しちゃいましょう！

ちなみに、御三家ポケモンとは、ゲーム開始直後に最初のパートナーとしてもらえるポケモンで、英語では「Starter Pokémon」と言われています。「スカーレットバイオレット」の御三家ポケモンは、「ニャオハ、クワッス、ホゲータ」です。
