Summer Vacation in New Zealand
The New Zealand summer runs from December to February,
and we often take a long vacation,withsome people taking up to
four weeks off work!
Beach trips, road trips, and camping are all popular activities,
and with so many beaches, lakes and rivers, water sports are
usually on the list of things to do.
My best memories of summer holidays in New Zealand are camping with friends at the beach and snorkeling for seafood like crayfish and scallops.
We would barbecue our catch right on the beach,
and eat while watching the sunset!
Some of the best beaches are in Bay of Islands and Coromandel.
Popular lakes are Taupo and Rotoruain the North Island,and Queenstown
and Wanaka in the South Island.
They are very busy over Summer,but you can visit all year round.
I hope you have a chance to visit sometime.

いよいよ今週末はワールドカップの優勝が決まりますね！
そこで今回はワールドカップに関してJack先生よりお便りが届いております😊
リーディングに挑戦してみましょう♪

Football (soccer) is the UK’s favorite sport.
From August to May every year hundreds of teams play against each other every week and millions of people across the country go to support their local team.
But many fans are sad when the season stops in May.
However, this year is different. This summer is a world cup summer!

The 2026 World Cup is being held in the USA, Canada, and Mexico –
the first to ever be held in three countries.
Since the middle of June people from all over the world have been enjoying
the football party in North America.

48 teams started the tournament, but there can be only one winner.
Teams like France and Spain are very strong
but recently teams like Japan or Morocco are strong too.
More than ever before it is difficult to predict who will win.

Now the excitement and pressure is building.
Leading up to the final game on the July 19th
(or 4:00am on July 20th here in Japan).
I’m very excited to see who can win and make history,
so let’s all watch the World Cup Final together!

Why do people visit Stonehenge in June?

The most incredible thing about Stonehenge is how it aligns with the sun.
The ancient builders arranged
the stones perfectly to match the movement of the sun.
On the morning of the Summer Solstice,
the sun rises exactly behind the famous
“Heel Stone” and shines directly into the center of the monument.

Because of this magic alignment,
thousands of people gather there to watch the sunrise.
For this one special night,
visitors are allowed to walk inside the stone circle and touch the stones—something that is normally forbidden during the rest of the year!

Who goes to the festival?

A very diverse group of people visits Stonehenge for the solstice

Modern Druids and Pagans：
People who follow ancient traditions and respect nature as a spiritual guide.

Tourists：
Travelers from all over the world who want to
experience a unique British tradition.

Families and Music Lovers ：
People who enjoy staying up all night, listening to acoustic music,
and watching the beautiful sunrise together.

The Magic of Summer Solstice at Stonehenge

Imagine standing outside under a beautiful morning sky.
Around you are giant, ancient stones thousands of years old.
Hundreds of people are singing, laughing, and waiting quietly.
Suddenly, the sun rises and shines directly into the center of the stones.
Welcome to the Summer Solstice at Stonehenge!

Every year in June, an amazing event happens in the south of England.
It is called the Summer Solstice celebration at Stonehenge.
It is one of the most famous and historic festivals in the English-speaking world.

What is the Summer Solstice?

The Summer Solstice is the longest day of the year.
In the Northern Hemisphere (the top half of the Earth),
this happens around June 21st.
On this day, we have the most hours of sunlight and the shortest night.
For many people, it is the official start of summer.

What is Stonehenge?

Stonehenge is a very old monument made of giant stones.
It is located in Wiltshire,England. Historians believe that people built it between 4,000 and 5,000 years ago!
Nobody knows exactly how ancient people moved these heavy stones,
or exactly why they built it. It remains a beautiful mystery.

Solstice (noun): The time of year when the sun reaches its highest or lowest point in the sky at noon, creating the longest or shortest day.
