🎬ニッチな映画が好き
While I tend to be more drawn to less popular and more niche movies, whatever the genre, I occassionally do watch more mainstream fare. I currently subscribe to U Next, Amazon Prime and Netflix.

🎬サブスク勢ぞろい(笑)
While I find Netflix to be a little limiting and mostly focusing on their original content, Amazon Prime and especially U Next have far larger catalogs especially when it comes to studio movies. For the budding cinephile, U Next is by far the best option, albeit the most expensive.

🎬Unextが気に入っている理由は・・・？
They have entire watchlists by directors I love such as David Lynch, David Cronenberg and Brian De Palma. They even have more obscure stuff by such directors as the great giallo (pronounced JA LO or “yellow” in English) horror director Dario Argento. Such films require quite a great deal of concentration and sometimes I do just want to veg out in front of the television and watch something silly.

🎥1週間でなんと〇本の映画を
As a number of students are aware, I am huge cinephile or movie watcher. On average I watch at least six to eight movies, almost one per night, with my primary genre of interest being horror. My love of film and movies began at a very early age when I would watch VHS tapes and scour the video rental stores for exciting and interesting films, often going only by the covers.

🌟思い出の「バットマン　リターンズ」
When I lived in Spain in the early 90’s, I would drop in at the local videostore and reserve the newest movies coming out so I got to see them before anyone else. I distinctly remember when Tim Burton’s “Batman Returns” was due to come out. My parents had already bought me the videotape for Christmas and didn’t want me to rent it. Therefore, they asked the videostore owner to tell me that the movie had been delayed and he didn’t have any copies. My dissapointment was quickly forgotten on Christmas morning.

🎥ホラー映画への愛
My love of horror began when I watched John Carpenter’s terrifying snowbound alien horror “The Thing”. The film scared me to such an extent that I vowed never to watch horror again. A decade later and I was a huge horror fan. “The Thing” is now one of my favourite films, and no film other than Stanley Kubrick’s “The Shining” has had such a huge effect on me.

🇯🇵実は日本のホラー映画も
I am also a big fan of Japanese cinema and especially am drawn to the old masters such as Shindo Kaneto, Oshima Nagisa and of course Akira Kurosawa. In terms of modern Japanese experimental horror, Tsukamoto Shinya and his body horror and liminal horror experiments still fascinate me. I even wrote an essay on his highly intriguing film “A Snake of June” at University.

⚾日本人選手の活躍も⚾
As for Japanese players, this week Mitoma Kaoru, one of Japan’s star players at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, became the only Japanese player to have scored seven goals or more in a Premier League season. There are still ten games remaining! Mitoma-san plays for Brighton and Hove Albion, which is located only thirty minutes by train from where I was born.

⚾怪我をしながらも・・・？⚾
I feel a great sense of pride that a Japanese player is doing so well. At Arsenal we also have a Japanese player; Tomiyasu Takahiro. Unfortunately he is now injured and may miss the rest of the season. However, last year he gave us many great performances and really helped the team achieve its goals. I sincerely hope more Japanese players play in the Premier League and Japan continues to have great success on the international stage. By the way, did you know the UK had a baseball team enter into this years World Baseball Classic? They even won a game… I was shocked to hear this!

⚾話題のWBC⚾
Last month Japan won the World Baseball Classic tournament final, beating the USA, and capturing the hearts of both Japanese baseball fans and non-fans alike. While I am not a big fan of baseball, I was thrilled to hear of this fantastic achievement.

⚾スポーツ観戦って楽しいですよね⚾
My baseball knowledge runs to having heard of Otani Shohei and Ichiro and that is about it. Having said that, I would like to experience the atmosphere of a live game, and would relish the chance to watch a team such as Hiroshima Carp in their own stadium. Feeling the passion of the fans, without the love of a sport, is always an exciting and worthwhile experience.

⚽Davidの好きなスポーツは？🏀
When it comes to my interest in sports football and basketball are my two favourites. The Boston Celtics are my favourite basketball team and this year they are having a strong season. Last year they got to the NBA Finals but ultimately lost to the Golden State Warriors. I hope they can go one better in 2023 and finally win the NBA once more!

As many students at Matsuyama Nova are aware, I am a huge Arsenal Football Club supporter. I first began supporting Arsenal when I was a college student. My grandparents were originally from London and so I have always felt an affinity towards the London football clubs. It was when watching Arsenal on TV, over twenty years ago, clad in their famous red and white shirts that I fell in love with them. Their football was majestic, skillful and beautiful to watch.

⚽130年以上の歴史があるサッカーチーム⚽
The club has a long history, over one hundred and thirty years. We are the only team to have gone through a Premier League season unbeaten and have won more FA Cups than any other team. This year we are number one in the Premier League and could be champions… It has been stressful but I hope and pray we do it!

サッカーをフットボールと呼ぶ違和感を感じたら
イギリス出身のDavidに怒られてしまいそうですね😓

🌸夜の松山城もおすすめ🌸
Matsuyama Castle was fully lit up in bright white, while the cherry blossoms in the park area were also lit up, many of which were lit with amazing purple lighting. The contrast of purple and white made for an outstanding sight.
The purple light around the cherry blossoms helped Matsuyama Castle pop out under the night sky. It was truly an amazing sight.

To anyone coming to Matsuyama or anyone living in Matsuyama, I highly recommend checking this area out during cherry blossom season.

🌸城山公園へ桜を見に行きました🌸
Last week, I went to Shiroyama park to check out the cherry blossoms
and had a great time.
All of the cherry blossoms were fully bloomed and
many leaves were blowing in the wind.
There were a lot of people enjoying picnics and kids were running around the park, playing. It was an amazing sight.

🌸何枚写真を撮ったでしょう？🌸
All around the park, cherry blossoms were very nice.
I went camera happy and took maybe 100 pictures of the cherry blossoms and shared them with family and friends.
As the sun started to set, I decided to go to Matsuyama Castle to see the cherry blossoms around the park in front of the castle.

🌸お花見と言えばおいしい食べ物🌸
Before climbing up the trail under the ropeway cable car,
I decided to stop by a fantastic ice cream and
sweet potato place called Imon Pippi.

🌸いもぴっぴ食べたことありますか？🌸
This place sells various types of purple sweet potato snacks including salt flavored sweet potato chips, baked sweet potatoes, and most famous, their spaghetti shaped sweet potato ice cream.
I ordered the spaghetti shaped ice cream and made my way up to the castle.
