≪Valentine’s Day around the world≫

Chocolates, flowers, expensive dinners and romantic tete-a-tetes . With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, it’s time for us to plan how to spend the day with our special someone. When it comes to Valentine’s Day, though, there are no rules.
Many different countries around the world celebrate Valentine’s Day a little differently. For example, in Japan we have Valentine’s day
and a month later, White Day. Only Japan and South Korea celebrate White day!

Let’s look at some other ways the day of love is celebrated around the world:👇

デンマークの国旗DENMARK:

In Denmark, men and women exchange pressed white flowers called ‘snowdrops’ instead of fresh bouquets. They also give each other joke cards that are unsigned, and the recipient has to guess who the card is from!

ドイツの国旗GERMANY:

In Germany, couples give each other gingerbread cookies with chocolate messages written on them instead of cards.
They also exchange chocolate Pigs! This sounds silly, but in German culture the pig is a symbol of both luck and lust!

フィリピンの国旗THE PHILIPPINES:

In The Philippines, Valentine’s day is a day of mass weddings! Large numbers of couples gather to celebrate and exchange vows all at the same time. These events are often government sponsored, and are a way for many people who live in poverty to be able to afford to get married.

ガーナの国旗GHANA:

In Ghana, February 14th is National Chocolate day. Tastings, dinners, festivals and shows are held, all with a chocolate theme!
These events are held to promote Ghana’s biggest export: the Cocoa bean!

エストニアの国旗ESTONIA:

In Estonia, Valentine’s day is called ‘Sobrapaev’ which actually means Friendship Day! It is a day to celebrate all relationships, both romantic and platonic.

イタリアの国旗ITALY:

In Italy, Valentine’s day is part of the spring festivals and the tradition is for unmarried couples to wake up early and go out before dawn to spot their future spouse!

As you can see, there are a myriad of ways to celebrate Valentine’s day, and not just with our significant others but with friends and family too!

How will you celebrate Valentine’s Day this year?
