New Year’s Celebration in America

Depending on where you grow up, celebration of the New Year holiday can differ quite a bit. In New York’s countryside, where I’m from, we usually get together with family and/or friends at a house party. While drinking and eating a variety of food, there’s usually a TV program on that’s a bit similar to Japan’s Kouhaku in that it has a number of famous performers singing in it until a little before midnight. The show is filmed in New York City mostly, and as it gets closer to midnight, the cameras eventually focus their attention on the New Year’s Ball in Times Square that slowly drops down until the clock strikes midnight. At this point, people usually give their loved ones a kiss in celebration of the new year. Have I ever gone to NYC to watch the ball drop in person? Never. Maybe one day I will. Have you ever seen this event in NYC before?

ここ最近で一気に寒くなり、手袋やマフラーが
必須になって参りましたね🥶

本日のブログはフランス語講師のThibaud(ﾃｨﾎﾞ)講師に
クリスマスをテーマに書いてもらいました🎄

Le bain de Noël, une tradition normande

Si parler de noël nous rappelle d’habitude les couleurs vives des guirlandes illuminés, les pulls à col haut que l’on porte sous son manteau quand vient le moment de sortir dehors, et les repas de familles chargés de viandes, patates, sauces et bûches glacés au chocolat. Noël a une signification en plus pour certains habitants de la Normandie. Celle du bain de Noël.
Mais qu’est-ce que c’est ? Vous vous demandez.
Simple et terrifiant :
Un bain dans la mer normande glacée du mois de décembre.
Une tradition où quelques courageux se retrouvent pour affronter (en maillot de bain tout de même) une eau en dessous de 10° Celsius.
Mon père l’a fait une fois. Lui et des amis s’étaient entrainés un peu avant le grand jour (La nuit en faite, il y sont allé la nuit eux)
Je me souviens ce que les gens me disaient à l’époque : « Le plus dur, c’est pas d’y rentrer (Dans la mer) mais d’y rester. Une minute dedans et tu a l’impression que ton corps va se bloquer en une crampe géante !»

Bien sûr, on n’est pas des monstres en Normandie. Les courageux baigneurs peuvent compter sur les bars proches pour leur offrir du vin chaud, avec des clous de girofle et de la cannelle dedans.

Mais moi, je ne le ferai jamais je pense. Je déteste l’eau froide ! Vous cependant ? Seriez-vous prêt à essayer le bain de minuit, le 25 Décembre au soir ? Venez donc en parler à Nova !

今回は先生が有名なフランスのクリスマスマーケットを

いくつか紹介してくれましたよ！

Ça y est, nous sommes en décembre !
C’est mon mois favori de l’année.

Pourquoi ? Parce qu’il y a beaucoup de fêtes !
Aujourd’hui, je vais vous présenter quelques marchés de Noël populaires en France.

En premier, le marché de Noël de Strasbourg, qui est le plus populaire en France.
On peut y déguster beaucoup de spécialités locales comme du pain d’épice et du vin.
Les décorations sont magnifiques et vous êtes assurés de passer un bon moment !

En second, je vous conseille également de visiter Colmar qui est très populaire.
Colmar avec ses maisons atypiques est vraiment unique et donne l’impression d’être dans un conte de fées, surtout pendant les fêtes de Noël.
Il y a beaucoup d’activités à faire aussi et bien sûr la cuisine locale avec du foie gras, des biscuits…!

Finally, we are in December!
It is my favorite month of the year.

Why? Because there are so many festivals!
Today, I will talk about some popular Christmas markets in France.

Firstly, the Strasbourg’s Christmas Market, which is the most famous in France.
We can enjoy many local specialties like gingerbread and wine.
The decorations are also beautiful and you are assured to have a wonderful time there!

Secondly, I also recommend to visit Colmar which is also very popular.
Colmar, with its very noticeable houses is truly unique and gives the sensation to be inside a fairy tale, especially during the Christmas period.
There are also a lot of activities to do and of course the local cuisine with the foie gras, the biscuits…!

今回は引き続き韓国ことわざシリーズPart2です😁
今日はどんなことわざがあるのか早速見てみましょう👀

1. 돼지 목에 진주：猫に小判

意味：豚の首に真珠

2. 금강산도 식후경：花より団子

意味：金剛山も食事後の景色
-美しい金剛山の景色も食後にしか目に入らない

3. 시작이 반이다：案ずるより生むが易し

意味：始めたことで半分は行っている
-始めたら半分は達成したようなものだ

国が変わるとことわざに使われる動物が代わるとは面白いですね😁
金剛山は北朝鮮政府の方針で韓国人や外国人観光客に
一部解放されている地域だそうです！
海外にもこんなことわざがあるというのは万国共通の食欲で面白いですね！

12月になり日に日に寒くなってきていますね。
冬と言えば、雪！雪と言えば、スキー！

今回はフランス語のNicolas先生がフランスの

スキーリゾートをいくつか紹介してくれましたよ！

Comment allez-vous aujourd’hui ?

Aujourd’hui, on est le 25 novembre et Noël approche à grands pas. J’ai hâte et j’espère qu’il ne fera pas trop froid cette année non plus !
Comme nous arrivons bientôt en saison hivernale, et que j’ai grandi dans les Alpes, je voudrais vous présenter quelques lieux et stations de ski
dans lesquelles vous pouvez passer un bon moment si vous visitez la France !

En premier, Courchevel est peut-être la station la plus connue et la plus belle des Alpes. On peut y observer une vue magnifique de l’Italie et de la Suisse !
Ensuite, le Val d’Isère qui est aussi très populaire comme station de ski où les jeux olympiques ou championnats du monde de ski ont eu lieu.
Et si vous aimez vraiment le ski, alors allez à “Tignes” qui propose beaucoup de pistes et d’activités liées aux sports d’hiver.

Si vous souhaitez simplement faire de la randonnée alors je vous conseille Valloire et ses 3 grands lacs qui sont très réputés, surtout en été.
Vous pouvez y admirer un panorama magnifique et profiter de la nature.

How are you all doing today?

December has started and Christmas is approaching fast. I can’t wait and I hope it isn’t going to be that cold this year either!
As we are approaching and slowly entering the winter season, and since I’ve grown up in the Alps, I would like to introduce you some places and
famous ski resorts where you could spend a good time if you visit France (during winter)!

First, “Courchevel” is probably the most famous place and the most beautiful resort of the Alps. From there, we can observe a beautiful view from Italy and Switzerland!
Next, “le Val d’Isère” which is also very famous as a ski resort where the Olympic games and some ski world championships took place is also recommended to visit.
Then, if you really enjoy skiing, then you should go to “Tignes” which offers a lot of ski slopes and activities related to winter sports!

If you would simply like to do some hiking then I recommend you to go to “Valloire” and its 3 Great Lakes which are also very famous, especially during summer.

意味：（お餅を持ってる人は）お餅をあげようと夢にも思ってないのに、
キムチグックを先に飲んで置く。
ーお餅を食べる時、お餅が喉に詰まらせないように
キムチの汁と一緒に食べたりします。

　

2, 낮말은 새가 듣고 밤말은 쥐가 듣는다：壁に耳あり障子に目あり

意味：お昼の言葉は鳥が聞いて、夜の言葉はネズミが聞く

突然ですが皆さん、エビングハウスの忘却曲線ってご存知ですか？
ドイツの実験心理学者エビングハウスが
人間が記憶したこと忘れていく速さを
研究しグラフにまとめたものです！
この研究結果によれば、1時間後には約50%を忘れ
24時間後には約70%、そしてなんと1か月後には
ほとんどを忘れてしまっているというのです⚡⚡

レッスンを集中して受けたはずなのに
次回のレッスンでは思い出せなくて
悔しい思い😭をしたことがある方も多いのではないでしょうか？
その原因はズバリ！この研究結果の通り
一生懸命覚えたことを脳が忘れてしまうからだったんですね😓
でもせっかくレッスンに来ているのだから
習ったことをどんどん覚えてスキルアップしていきたいですよね？

After the Thanksgiving holiday finishes on the fourth Thursday in November, the next day is known as Black Friday. With Thanksgiving finished, families change their focus to Christmas shopping. It’s a day that many people look forward to while others dread.
Stores open earlier than usual on Black Friday and have bargains that range from amazing, to slightly less expensive than usual. Most of the discounted items are in limited supply so that’s why it’s important to arrive at the store as early as possible. Many people line up outside the store before it even opens. Once the store opens its doors, customers rush inside, grab a shopping cart, and run while looking for the best deals they can find. This situation can often become dangerous with so many customers running around the store.
Have I ever done shopping on Black Friday? Just once. While trying to park my car in the parking lot, I was almost hit three times by other drivers. When I finally got into the store, the items I was looking for were already sold out. I survived that Black Friday, but just barely.
Is there anything similar to Black Friday in Japan? If so, please tell me about it in the next lesson.

ピレネーアトランティックの名物料理をご紹介いたします✨
とても美味しそうなものばかりなので要チェックです🤩

【フランス語】

Ensuite, le “magret de canard”. C’est aussi très connu. C’est du canard qu’on mange en général avec des légumes et des fruits (pêches, poires …).

Et enfin, on termine avec un gâteau : “le millas”. C’est mon gâteau préféré ! On peut le cuisiner avec des ingrédients très simples : oeufs, farine, sucre…
Mais la préparation est un peu spéciale alors la texture du gâteau est aussi unique ! Je vous conseille d’essayer de le goûter si vous avez l’occasion.

Si un de ces plats vous intéresse, je vous conseille de chercher la recette et de les essayer pour avoir un aperçu des goûts de la cuisine régionale.
