今回は丁寧な指導で評判のアメリカ人講師Michaelに3月17日に行われるSt. Patrick’s Day（聖パトリックデー）につきまして紹介していただきます🐰🥕
In the U.S., Saint Patrick’s Day is celebrated as a prominent holiday. The holiday honors Saint Patrick of Ireland and occurs on March 17th, the day Saint Patrick is believed to have died. Saint Patrick was a Catholic saint and is the Patron Saint of Ireland. Saint Patrick promoted Christianity in Ireland during his time there. Legends and rumors say he drove the snakes from Ireland, explaining why snakes don’t live in Ireland to this day.
The day is a major celebration of Irish culture, an important thing in the U.S. as historically many people in the U.S. immigrated from Ireland. During Saint Patrick’s Day, people wear green. People also do shamrock decorations as part of their outfits. Children sometimes pinch others who aren’t wearing green. Many cities host parades and festivals to celebrate the holiday. In Chicago, the Chicago River is dyed green during the day.
Food and drink are also important parts of the holiday. People often make corned beef and cabbage, soda bread, and bake green desserts. Celebrants drink Irish beer on Saint Patrick’s Day, and this beer sometimes includes shamrocks or is dyed green.. People enjoy Irish music, including bagpipe music, and engage in Irish step dancing.
