季節も過ごし方も日本とは異なるニュージーランドのクリスマスを、この機会に知ってみるのはいかがでしょうか🎅🎅🎅とても興味深い内容でした！！

My name is Jessica and I come from New Zealand. Christmas is a popular holiday in New Zealand where most people celebrate with their families or their friends. It might come as a surprise to you but in New Zealand we have a summer Christmas, so it is usually hot during this time of year. We even have a Santa Claus in a singlet, shorts and sunglasses (sometimes with a surfboard). It is popular for people to go to the beach, have barbeques or go to a batch (a holiday home) when they celebrate.

My family typically celebrates Christmas at home where we have a big Christmas lunch on Christmas Day that leaves everyone’s stomachs full all day. The food we eat is usually prepared the previous day and eaten cold. I always look forward to the roast chicken, ham and potato salad we make. After we eat, we usually open the presents that we have left under our Christmas tree and play a few games. However, when I was a child my family had a tradition where they put presents in a pillow case on Christmas Eve, pretending they were gifts from Santa and in the morning I would wake up surprised. Presents from Santa (parents) is another tradition that some families do that makes Christmas a little magical for kids who believe that Santa is real.

Additionally, there is the religious side of Christmas that is also important to many families in New Zealand as it is a Christian holiday. Often families will go to a church on Christmas Eve night or on Christmas Day where they will have a special church service. Usually involving a story and singing lots of Christmas related songs. My favorite part is singing all the songs with everyone because they make me feel joy.
