随分と過ごしやすい気候になってきましたね🌞夏もすぐそこ！🌴
さて、みなさん英語を勉強している際に
「これってもしかして日本語？？」という言葉に出会ったことありませんか❔
例えば”Sushi”や”Tsunamiなど、
日本語がそのまま英語として浸透していることってありますよね💡
今日はこのように日本語にルーツを持つ英語を
日本語勉強中のイギリス出身Greg先生が教えてくれたので、
紹介していきたいと思います🎵
English, being the most widely spoken language in the world,
takes influences from many places including Latins,
Greek, Germanic and even Native American Languages.
But did you know that a number of our words come from Japanese?
Hancho
Often explained as “Head Honcho”, this word originates to the 1940’s
when japanese soldiers would reger to their squad leaders
as “班長” or “Hancho”. Americans would later modify the pronounciation
to be “Honcho” and use it to reger to boss or leader.
e.g. “Gerrard is the head honcho around the office”
Zen
Deriving from the Japanese “禅”, Zen originally was used to reger to
a form of Buddhism in which meditation practice is valued over worship.
In modern English “Zen” is used to describe something
as peaceful or calm.
e.g. “Lida is a very Zen person”
Tycoon
Another word used to reger to a leader in a business setting,
“Tycoon” comes from the old Japanese word “大君”.
When the Americans came to Japan 1854 they assumed
the title “Shogun” was incorrect and instead interpreted as “Taikun”
e.g. “Elon Musk is a wellknown buisiness Tycoon”
日本語でも普段の生活であまり使わないような言葉が、
英語として使われているんですね😲💡
