英会話スクール・英会話教室🐰英語de異文化理解🐰 アメリカ🗽編【NOVA入間校】

Hello everyone😊🎶
NOVA入間校です✨✨

今日は入間校で✨一番人気✨の講師Mattより、
英語の「分かち書き」についてのエッセイです🎶

通常日本語で文章を書くとき、日本語はひらがな/カタカナ/漢字があるため、語の区切りに空白を挟んで記述する「分かち書き」をしないことが多いです📚

しかし、世界には多くの言語が分かち書きで表記されます…英語のように🌎

さて、この分かち書きについてMattはどのようなことを伝えたいのでしょうか…?🔍

 Like people, words need space

Hello there. Matt here. I want to devote this blog to a common problem that I have seen across the board in kids lessons. Spacing.

Here is how many kids write,
IliveinTokyo.  Ilikeitverymuch. Mymomanddadarenice.

Naturally the lack of spacing can be traced back to how Japanese is written. Even though children can clearly see the spacing from the textbook, force of habit causes them to revert to the Japanese way of writing. Teachers and parents have to have solidarity on this point. We need to know when to be strict. This is a point to be strict on. If not corrected, it will cause them trouble in junior high school and beyond.

Paragraphing is a separate but very connected issue. If ESL (English as a Second Language) students write words not properly spaced, they will also be less inclined to use proper paragraphing.

There will be no opening supporting and concluding paragraphs. In EIKEN this is connected to cohesion. Cohesion is one fourth of the writing score for the 1st stage writing task and that is a substantial chunk of points that the test taker could lose for such an easily fixable problem. (Content, vocabulary and grammar are the other three)

Ihopeyouenjoyed.. Just kidding. I hope you got something out of this. I look forward to reaching out to you in future blogs.

Be ever mindful.
