Fencing has been included in every modern Olympics since they began in 1896.
There are 3 different weapons, foil, epee and sabre.
This year, the Japanese men’s team won the gold medal in epee!
Many people say epee is the easiest to watch because the rules are simpler,
if you hit your opponent, you get one point.
In foil and sabre, you have to take priority to get a point.
This means you either have to attack first,
or counter the other person’s attack.
The target areas are also smaller, so you have to move very fast
to avoid being hit. This makes them very exciting to watch!
