英会話スクール・英会話教室🖊Japanese English講座 Part2🖊

皆さまこんにちは🌞
NOVA池袋西口校です😄

今回は前回に引き続き、英語講師のMattに
よくあるJapanese Englishの間違いについて
レクチャーしてもらいます🌟

③ I bought it at a bargain.
In English, bargain is a noun that means something
that was cheap or discounted. You can get something
for a bargain (in a low price) or say it was a bargain but
you can’t get it at a bargain. In this situation we use the
word sale. So, we can say I picked up a bargain at the sale.

④ We took the ropeway up the mountain.
Ropeway is an old English word for a device to move goods
across rivers and valleys but it is not commonly used outside
Japan. We usually use the word cable car to describe the thing
that takes us up and down the mountain.

⑤ At the amusement park we rode the attractions.
Attractions actually means many things like rides,
shows, displays etc. So it is better to say we rode
a lot of rides. Yes, the verb and nouns are the same!
Also, maybe it’s because in Japan some rides are
really fast and that they are called jet coasters but
the correct word is roller coaster.
I love riding roller coasters! How about you?

I hope these hints help you to speak more effective and
naturally. If you have any questions about these words,
pleases feel free to ask your teacher!
