お月見団子とススキをお供えして月を眺めます。
穀物の収穫に感謝し、団子をお供えします。
ススキは魔除けになると言われているそうです。

知ってましたか、各国で月の中に見えるクレーターの形が違うのを(≧◇≦)
カニの形に見えたり、ライオンの形に見えたりするそうです🤔

※成果や頑張りなどを一緒に喜ぶとき

B: Wow. That’s great news. I’m really proud of you.

※心配からの開放感やホッとしたとき
A: My sister was in a traffic accident the other day.
B: What? Is she okay?
A: Yeah, she was taken to hospital as a precaution but she’s fine.
B: Thank god!

※相手の話に対して、喜んでいるとき
A: I heard you had to have surgery after the accident.
B: Yeah, that’s right.
A: How did it go?
B: The doctor said that it went well and that I should make a full recovery.
A: That’s great. I’m glad to hear that.

※無くしたものなどが見つかったとき
A: You know how I said I lost my phone the other day?
B: Yeah?
A: Well, it turns out it was in my bag the whole time.
B: What? Really? But you had everyone looking for it for ages!
A: I know. I’m really sorry.
B: Don’t worry about it. Anyway, I’m glad you found it.

水曜日に来てくれているJamesにインタビュー！
日本に来てどんなところにカルチャーショックを受けたのか聞いてみました！
おしゃべり大好きの穏やかな講師Jamesは、どんなところに驚いたのでしょう(ﾟ∀ﾟ)
Did you go through culture shock in Japan?

So, I have been in Japan for just over two years now and have mostly gotten used to life here. Of course, when I first arrived there were a few things that caused me a bit of culture shock.

The first was paying money at the doctor’s. In the UK all of our health care costs are paid for through taxation. That means whenever you visit a doctor or a hopital you don’t have to pay at the point of service. I have forgotten to take money when visiting the doctor at least once and having to remember is still difficult for me.

The other thing that caused me culture shock – and no small amount of pain – is the drinks guard on vending machines. In the UK, and just about every other country I have visited, the drinks guard works the same way the coin guard works in Japan – by pushing it in. However, here in the Japan, you have to pull the guard out before reaching in to get your drink, which is very strange for me. I banged the tips of my fingers countless times before finally learning to pull the guard up and not push it in.

Jamesの故郷イギリスは、課税に医療費が含まれているので病院に行ってもお金を払う必要がないんです。
病院でお金を払うっていう習慣がないから忘れがちになるんですね😨

自動販売機の取口については、カナダ出身のMikeもわかるって言ってました！
始めて自動販売機で飲み物を買った時、5分ぐらいずっとPushして、周りから変な目で見られた！
Mikeは、話さなければ日本人に見えるから、周りの人もビックリしたでしょうね！

そして、Jamesがもう一つ言ってたのが、日本は現金で支払うことが多いことです。
UKでは、クレジットカードなどキャッシュレスが多いのに比べて日本はカードや電子マネーが使えないところが多いところだそうです。
タッチ決済で支払するときは、専用の機械にかざすだけで便利！
無くした時は大変！かざすだけで使えるから！
無くした時は、クレジットカードを停止するアプリがあるからそれで停止をすれば大丈夫なんだそうです！
すごく便利で使いやすいから、使いすぎてしまいそう😅
そこもしっかりしてて、タッチ決済の1回の支払い上限が30￡！
それを超えたら何回もかざさないといけない😆と話してくれました！

先週のblogの後編です🤗

Are there any good sightseeing spots around your home town?

では、先週の続きです！
When we arrived at Yakuri temple I was impressed by its beauty, and as we progressed I was also impressed by the smaller tengu building at the back.
It’s next to this building that the hidden path to the top of mountain lines. Having to duck under a metal luggage track we started making our way up a dirt path through the trees on the side of the mountain.

The path was not obvious and seemed to blend into the wild of the forest, signaled by red tape that had been wrapped around tree branches. The further we got up the more camouflaged the path seemed to get. Nearer the top, the steepness of the mountain could only be overcome by metal ladders and ropes that some daring monks had installed in the past. These ladders were old and worn by time, and certainly dangerous to climb. Finally we reached the top. My friend and I took a breather and also took some photos of the spectacular view of Takamatsu and the Seto sea. Climbing down was equally as perilous as climbing up, but taking our time we carefully descended and found ourselves back at Yakuri temple.

Overall this was an adventurous day out and definitely a challenging hike. Even though it was fun and the view was spectacular. I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone who is inexperienced or people who are on their own. There was a high degree of danger to this climb.

梅雨が明けて快晴の香川です！
今年は珍しく梅雨らしい天気が続いてドンヨリでしたが、昨日から快晴が続いてます。
梅雨が明ける前にAlexは八栗山に登って途中で雨が降って怖かったそうです！
山道をハイキングしてるだけかと思ったら、ロープを使わないと登れないところもあるみたいです！ハイキングじゃなくて登山！😲🤣
Alexが長編で書いてくれたので、前編と後編に分けてご紹介します🤗

In my time in Japan I have climbed several mountains of various sizes. When holidaying in Tottori my friends and I climbed Mount Daisen. A tall mountain that is famous as a skiing destination for domestic travelers. My friend and I also climbed Mount Mitoku in Tottori, which was another challenging mountain. Recently, for Golden Week, my friends and I climbed Mount Ishizuchi in Ehime. Which is the Tallest mountain in west Japan. It`s fair to say that Mountain hiking is one of my favorite hobbies, and one that I had never done before coming to Japan. It is an opportunity that living on such a mountainous island throws at you.

When my friend told me that there is a mountain in Takamatsu called Mount  Yakuri, and that it has a temple built halfway up, and that it has a secret route going right to the top of the mountain, I couldn’t help but gleefully accept his invitation to join him on an ascent.

After a short train ride from Kawaramachi Station, we arrived at Yakuri and made our way to the foot of the mountain. It was a hot and humid day and the ascent up to the temple at the middle the mountain was as beautiful as it was exhausting. The light-hearted comedy of friendship spurring my friend and I on further.

日本に来る以前からハイキングが趣味ってわけではなかったみたいですね😲
イギリスにも見晴らしのいい山や綺麗な自然がたくさんありそうなのに🏞
講師達がハイキングに行くので私も行ってみようかと思うのですが、車で山頂までいっちゃいますね😅

今日は、AlexがUKで見れる野生の動物について教えてくれました！
レアな動物もいますが、実は日本でも生息してたのにビックリ！😲
キタリス（Red squirrels）は、日本では北海道にしか生息してなようです！
アナグマ（badger）は、ヨーロッパアナグマと二ホンアナグマでは、少し見た目が違ってました🦡
海外でも日本でも野生動物を見つけるとテンションあがりますよね🤩

Since I have been living in Japan, I have seen some interesting wildlife (wild animals). Snakes, hawks, deer and centipedes (mukade). This blog is to talk about some of the wildlife you can see in the UK.

Red foxes and very common in the cities, towns and countryside. They often come out at night to scavenge through peoples trash and maybe go after a farmers chicken. Some people in the UK hunt foxes with dogs, but there is a law in place that is supposed to ban this activity.

Another mammal, not as commonly seen but still present, is the badger. This is a large member of the weasel family and dig big burrows in the ground to live in. They have powerful claws that help it to dig and strong jaws with teeth used to kill small mammals and birds. They are omnivores, which means they eat both meat and vegetation.

Red squirrels are a species of tree squirrel that is common throughout Eurasia. In recent years their numbers have drastically decreased due to the introduction of the grey squirrel from America, which it competes with for food.

Ospreys are a type of hawk found in low numbers in Scotland. Their diets consist of mostly fish. They glide up to 130ft over water looking for large fish. When they find one they plunge feet first into the water to get it, often completely submerging their entire bodies.

These are just some of the animals you might see in the UK!

How much do you love Wasabi??!!

Wasabia japonica, or wasabi as we all know it, is a herbaceous perennial native to the wet banks of Japan`s cool and pristine mountain streams.  It was traditionally used as a natural herb and there is evidence that suggests cultivation started in Japan as early as the 10th century.   Now recognized globally as the perfect accompaniment to Sushi for it`s unique, spicy, burning and even painful attributes,  it might surprise you to find out that there is a refined and high quality wasabi homegrown in Canada.

As you may know already, there are two types of wasabi:  the semi-aquatic(“sawa”) and the field wasabi(“oka”).  Although the field grown wasabi usually results in a lower quality product, it is the more affordable and popular choice.  Since the climate and environment in the beautiful province of British Columbia are similar to Japan’s,  It might shock you to know that the best wasabi grown in the world outside Japan comes from my home province.  Make sure you give our wasabi a try the next time you visit Canada!
