The World of Western Superheroes

In Western culture, superheroes are more than just
comic book characters; they are modern legends.
Whether in movies or books, these heroes represent
values like justice, courage, and helping others.

Most superheroes have a “secret identity”.
For example, Superman is a powerful alien, but he
lives as a normal life as Clark Kent. This helps
the hero protct their friends and family.

Another common theme is the “origin story”, which explains
how they got their powers. Spider-Man gained his strength
from a radioactive spider bite, while Batman uses technology,
money, and training to fight crime.

Today, these stories are huge global hits.
They teach us that even regular people can do extraordinary
things if they are brave enough to stand up for what is right.

Japanese cuisine is incredibly popular in the United States
and Canada. While sushi is the most famous dish, many other
foods have become favorites.

In 2026, ramen is a top choice for a warm, filling meal.
These noodle bowls come with different broths like
miso or salt. People in the U.S. and Canada also love
tempura, which are vegetables or seafood fried in a light,
crispy batter. For a quick snack, many people now buy
onigiri (rice balls) from local shops.
Takoyaki, Okonomiyaki, and even Taiyaki are very popular
comfort foods in America and Canada.

Because Japanese food is often healty and fresh,
it is a great choice for everyone.

Whether you vist a fancy restaurant or a small food stall,
you will find delicious Japanese flavors
across North America!

Understanding the “American Dream”

The American Dream is a famous idea
that anyone, regardless of where they were born,
can achieve success through hard work.
It suggests that in the United States, you have the
freedom to improve your life and build a better future
for your children.

Historically, this meant owning a home, having a stable job,
and enjoying personal liberty. Famous musicians and
athletes are often linked to this dream because
they started with very little and became world-famous.

Today, the meaning is changing. For some, it is about
financial wealth; for others, it is simply the right to
live safely and speak freely. It remains a powerful symbol
of oppotunity and hope for people moving to America.

Valentine’s Day: A celebration of Love

Valentine’s day is a special day in the United States
celebrated every February 14th.
While it began as a religious holiday, it is
now a popular cultural event focused on expressing love
an affection.

For many Americans, the day is synonymous with romance.
Couples often exchange gifts like red roses,
boxes of chocolates or jewelry.
Many people also go out for a “romantic dinner”,
making it one of the busiest nights of the year
for restaurants.

However, Valentine’s Day is not just for couples.
In elementary schools, children participate by bringing
“valentines” – small cards or candies – for every student
in their class. This teaches children about friendship
and kindness.

People also use the day to show appreciation for
family members and close friends. Popular symbols
include red hearts, Cupid (the god of love), and
“conversation hearts”, which are small candies with
sweet messages like “Be mine” or “Best Friend”.

Whether through a simple card or a fancy gift,
the day is all about making others feel special.

and this day is the perfect excuse to enjoy

by immigrants in the early 1900s.
Today, it si a staple of American culture.

On this day, many pizzerias offer special
discounts or “buy one, get one free” deals.
Americans love to epxperiment with different types of
crust, such as thin crust or Chicago-style deep deish.
The most popular topping by far is pepperoni, but many
people also enjoy mushrooms, sausage, or even pineapple.

Whether you order from a big chain like Pizza Hut or
Dominos, or a local slice shop, National Pizza Day is
a fun way to celebrate a meal that brings people together

American Beer Culture: More Than Just a Drink

In the United States, beer is a major part of
social life. While large brands like Budweiser,
Coors Light, and Michelob ULTRA are very popylar,
America is also famous for its “craft beer” revolution.

There are over 9,500 small brewries across the county!
Many people visit taprooms to try different styles,
such as the bitter IPA (India Pale Ale) or
the smooth Lager.

Beer is also connected to American sports.
At a baseball game or Super Bowl Party, you will
often see people sharing a “six-pack” of cold cans.

Whether at a summer barbecue or a local beer festival,
it is a way for friends to relax and “cheers” to
a good time!

Groundhog Day: A Unique Tradition

Groundhog Day is a popular North American tradition
celebrated every year on February 2nd.
The holiday is based on a fun *folklore about a
rodent called a *groundhog.
According to legend, if the groundhog comes out of its hole
and sees its shadow, there will be six more weeks of winter.
If it does not see its shadow because the sky is cloudy,
spring will arrive early.

The most famous celebration happens in Punxsutawney,
Pennsylvania, with a groundhog named Phil.
Thousands of people gather there to watch the event.
While this is not a scientific way to predict the weather,
it is a beloved custom that helps people feel
optimistic during the cold winter months.

For English learners, this holiday is a great example of
how culture and weather are connected.
It uses specific vocabulary like
“prognostication” (prediction) and
“burrow” (the groundhog’s home).
It reminds us that even in the middle of winter,
spring is never too far away!

My hobbies

My hobbies include watching YouTube and Asian dramas.
On YouTube I actually watch a lot of Mukbangers or people
who eat a lot of food. I also enjoy watching Japanese variety
game shows on YouATube as well as Japenese people interviewing
tourists in Japan. Since I live in Japan, it is interesting
for me to see how tourists view Japan.

As for Asian drama, I watch a lot of Japanese, Korean, Thai,
and Taiwanese dramas. I have a big love for Asian languages
and cultures, so I always enjoy watching them. One of my
favorite genres of dramas is horror, while I haven’t wathed
many horror dramas per say, I hav watched many horror movies.
Some of my favorite horror is Japanese horror. For example
I love the horror movie ‘the Ring’（リング in Japanese）as
well as ‘Juon:The Gridge’（呪怨）.

New Year’s Eve in Hawaii

New Year’s Eve in Hawaii is a very special event for the
local people that live there.
On New Year’s Eve in my family, we would normally gather
with friends and family. It was like a big party
at someone’s house. Fire works for my family was a
big part of it. When I was growing up in Hawaii, I used to
go to my Aunt’s house every New Year’s Eve with my parents.

For us kids, New Year’s Eve was a big deal. We would
pig out on food that my family made. Then, when evening came,
we would play with fireworks, while the grown ups
supervised us. Together with my cousins, we would always
compare fireworks stashes. Sometimes before lighting things,
we would imagine what they would do.
We did very typical things with
the fireworks like blow up ant hills.
Most of all, I got to spend time with my family.

I have many fond memories from the many New Year’s Eves.
Actually, fireworks in Hawaii represent a blend of
ancient Hawaiian traditins. Asian cultural influences
and modern celebrations, symbolizing warding off evil spirits,
welcoming new beginnings, community bonding, and peace.
In 2014, it was the last time I bought fireworks for it all
became illegal after that. However, since then,
that has not stopped many Hawaii residents from setting
them off. Fire works is a part of Hawai’s many different
cultures and so even with laws in place, it still
remains a tradition for many families.

Celebrating New Year’s Around the World

New Year’s Day is celebrated on January 1st in many contries.
It is a time to look back at the past year and think about the future.

In many places, celebrations begin on New Year’s Eve.
People go to parties, watch fireworks, and stay up until
midnight. When the clock strikes twelve, they cheer
and wish each other a “Happy New Year!”

Many people make New Year’s resolutions,
which are promises to improve themselves, such as
exercising more or learning a new skill.
Different countries have unique traditions,
like eating twelve grapes in Spain or
ringing temple bells in Japan.

The New Year is a time of hope and a fresh start!
