How to look good on camera!
In Canada I was a photographer📷
I had lots of fun taking photos in many beautiful places⛅
There are many things to think about when you want to look good on camera.

1. Framing: It’s important to make sure enough of you is on screen. There is a photography rule called “The Rule of Thirds,” this just means that you head should fill two thirds of the screen.
   
   

2. Lighting: Lighting is just as important as framing. Having lots of light makes it easy for the camera to capture a beautiful picture👍

今日はJayson先生がカナダの代表的料理の
「プティーン」について教えてくれました😋🎵

“A Spoonful of Canada”
On cloudy days or days when I’m stuck inside I like to cook comfort food from home🍳
Canada’s signature dish is “poutine”
It’s a dish made of simple ingrediants: potatoes🥔, stock, and cheese🧀.
This dish is great for cold　Canadian winters and I think it could bring some warmth and light into any cloudy day⛄🌞

Ingrediants
Fries🍟
ｷ 1 frozen bag of fries or 4 white potatoes
Gravy
ｷ 3 tablspoons cornstarch
ｷ 2 tablespoons water
ｷ 6 tablespoons unsalted butter
ｷ 1/4 cup of all purpose flour
ｷ 20oz beef broth
ｷ 10oz chicken broth
ｷ black pepper

Toppings
ｷ 1 1/2 cups of white cheddar cheese curds or torn chunks of mozzarella cheese.
Optional Toppings
ｷ 3 tablespoons of maple syrup🍯
ｷ 5 strips of bacon🥓

Instructions
Gravy
1. Dissolve cornstarch into water
2. Melt butter in pan, add flour and stir until brown
3. Add both broths, add in cornstarch and whisk. Add pepper.
Deep Fried Potatoes🥔
4. Cut your potatoes and soak them in cold water for 1 hour
5. Deep fry potatoes
OR
6. Use oven to cook frozen fries

How to Prepare Poutine
7. Add fried potatoes into bowl. Season with salt.
8. Add 2 ladles of gravy on top of fries.
9. Add cheese curds or tear mozzarella and add on top of fries. Add pepper to taste.
Optional
For that extra “Canadian” feeling add 3 tablespoons of maple syrup🍯 on top of your gravy. This will give it that truly authentic feel and taste. It’s also possible to cook bacon🥓, crumble it, and sprinkle it on top for a salty taste.

😋My favorite Food😋
In Canada I really liked Japanese food🗼💕
But when I moved to Tokyo・・・！
I truly fell in love with it. Authentic Japanese food is nothing like the food that I could get in Canada.
The flavours are complex, deep, and delicate all at the same time✨
I enjoy most Japanese food but the one dish that stands above all others is ramen🍜🍜🍜

Ramen is so diverse.
There are so many varieties of soup, noodles, and topping👏
It fills my heart with excitement just thinking about it😆😆

I adore complex bowls with deep flavours but also
love and respect simple, earnest bowls. My current favourit bowls of ramen is from Tenkaippin.🍜✨
The rich broth has kept me warm and ful over this past winter.

今日は間違いやすい＆違いがよくわからない
AffectとEffectの違いについてRobert先生が詳しく教えてくれます✍

Affect or Effect?
These words can be confusing even for native English speakers. Especially, since many people pronounce them the same way.

Here’s a basic guideline for affect vs effect:

Generally, we use affect as verb (an action word) and effect as a noun (an object word).

What does affect mean?
Affect means to act on; produce an effect or change.

e.g. “The cold weather badly affected the crops.” (it produced a bad change in the crops)

If you can substitute affect with another verb, you’ll know you’re using the right word: “The cold weather damaged the crop.”

What does effect mean?
Effect is most commonly used as a noun, meaning “result” or “consequence.” So, try to use result in place of effect and see if it makes sense.

e.g. “His sunburn was an effect of exposure to the sun.” His sunburn was a result of exposure to the sun.

Here is a way to remember the difference.

今日はRobert先生の休暇エピソードです🌸

★☆Robert’s vacation☆★

Last week I took a vacation to travel around Japan🗾
I started with a bus trip to Nakatsugawa in the Gifu prefecture where I hiked in a forest for 8km🌳
After my hike, I stayed in a traditional guest house and travelled to Kyoto the next day🍵

During hiking, I injured my leg so I spent several extra days in Kyoto🤣
I visited famous places such as: the Imperial Palace, Nijojo castle, Arashiyama Bamboo forest and Monkey Park. I also went to a tea ceremony and museum🍵

Ater Kyoto I spent several hours in Nara making friends with deer before travelling again to Osaka🦌Although I only spent one day in Osaka I managed to see Osaka castle, Doutonbori and Namba.

I had a great time but Kyoto was my favourite.😍😍
It was very tradition and many people were wearing Kimonos👘🌸
It felt like I had travelled back in time🚄💨

短い時間で色々な観光地を巡れて羨ましいなあ・・・✨
日本を堪能出来たみたいで良かったです(*’ω’*)

Hi, I’m Arran✋
My favorite Japanese person is Masanobu Fukuoka.
Along with an Australian man, Bill Mollison, he is seen as a founder of permaculture and natural farming.
I think he had fields and orchards in Shikoku.
No chemicals were used and he experimented with new methods to manage pests.
I briefly studied permaculture in England and-also briefly- worked on an organic farm in wales.
Masanobu Fukuoka’s book ゛The one straw Revolution” is available at kinokuniya bookstore. please read it and then leave Tokyo for a more powerful life in the countryside with me.

🍬Candy where I’m from🍭

A very fun and delicious Canadian candy that i miss is maybe syrup snow😋
It’s a popular candy to get at winter festivals⛄💕

The candy is made by pouring boiling maple syrup over clean, fresh snow.
Right After the syrup is poured onto the snow it is rolled onto a stick. This desert is very popular with kids.
If you ever visit Canada in the winter, please try this ｄｅｓｅｒｔ🛫💨

Since moving to Japan I’ve had an interesting probleme.
I’ve been unable to buy any clothes!💦
Tokyo is the fashion capital on this side of the world but it seems that i’m a bit too big to fit
into anything fashionable here. I am 193cm tall and have 31cm size feet💦
I have searched all over Tokyo for clothes but
have only been able to find 1 store that has dress clothing in my size😖😖

Please let me know if you have any suggestions or can teach me how to use a sewing machine!🌈🌞🌞
