11月も終わりが近づき年末もすぐそこです！
今年の初めに決めた目標やチャレンジしたかったことはもう達成できましたか？😊

本日も講師のPhilip講師よりメッセージが届いております！
速読も兼ねて一緒に読んでみましょう！

Hello everyone!

My name is Philip. I’m from England, and I’ve been teaching English in Japan for almost 7 years.

English is an important language nowadays for communicating with people in other countries, either for work or just friendly conversation! We are seeing more and more tourists enter Japan too, so a lot of our students are taking lessons, so that they can talk with visitors to your country!

Some of our students are taking lessons to pass their next Eiken or TOEIC exams, too! These are my favorite lessons to teach, as not only are you learning about English grammar, but you learn a lot of very useful vocabulary, too! And the end result is that you have a nice qualification to use to get a better job or contribute to your next promotion! Isn’t that great? It’s “2 birds 1 stone”!

My favorite saying in English is “stick to it, and it will stick to you.” It means, if you keep practicing and studying something diligently, you WILL succeed!

So how about starting something new, and work towards your fluency with our experienced teachers? We are all hoping to see you soon!

英文を読む練習も兼ねて一緒に読んでみましょう！

Good morning everyone!

Greetings, in all cultures, are important. We greet strangers and loved ones every day.

In England, we have quite a few greetings, depending on where you are from.

In my hometown, in Yorkshire, we greet each using typical “time of day” sayings, such as “Mornin’!” or “Evenin’!”. We also use some area-specific greetings with our friends or co-workers. These are “Eyup!” and “Nar then.”. Another greeting is “Alright?” which might fool some as being a question, but actually, you aren’t supposed to answer, just reply with another greeting.

Are there any greetings that are unique to where you live? Why not come in and greet us today in your favorite way? We hope to see you soon!

Remember, this month we are running the Doctor English course, which you can take with your favorite instructors! In this course, you will conquer your grammar mistakes, and learn about the nuance of particular rules. Are you ready to cure your ills? Make sure buy it soon!

本格的に寒くなってまいりましたね❄
クリスマスも近づいてきて色々な所でライトアップやイベントが開催されワクワクがたくさんな季節です😊

今回はPhilip講師よりメッセージが届いております！

Hello everyone!

Recently, my friend came and visited me from England. He hasn’t really done much travelling before, and, to be quite honest, it was a complete surprise for me that he came to Japan. I panicked and had to prepare for his arrival within a very short period of time, just a few hours! But I managed to clean up enough for him to have somewhere to sleep for the time he needs somewhere to sleep.

Yesterday, I took him to Nara, to see the temples and museums in the area. On the way there, we had a long conversation about how impressive some aspects of Japan are, for example, how clean the trains are, and how easy it is to get from place to place.

When we visited Toudaiji, he was amazed by the scale of the structure. He said “It must have taken a great level of organization to get such a structure built”, and when we learnt about the amount of people it took to build it, I had to agree.

We left Nara in the afternoon, and I regret that I didn’t buy what I wanted to buy (a new tea bowl), but I did buy a fridge magnet from one of the museum gift shops.

We finished the day by going to my favorite restaurant chain, Torikizoku! My friend thought it was great, too.

Hello everyone!

My name is Philip, and I’m the new teacher in the Kyoto area.
I’m from England, and I’ve been living in Japan since February 2019.
I was originally living in Hyogo, but now I live in Osaka. My home town is in Yorkshire, which is in the North of England.
My hobbies are hiking, visiting shrines and temples, finding and drinking different kinds of tea, and playing games.
Since it’s now autumn, I’d like to share a wonderful English cake from my home. It’s called “Parkin” and it tastes of ginger. It’s perfect for warming you up in the cold weather. Why don’t you try making it at home?

Also, we’re starting a new course this month! We call it “Doctor English”!
In this course, we aim to help you with the different grammar rules you may have learned in school, that aren’t always true! It’s really useful to improve your speaking skills and how fluent you sound!

Why not come and book your lessons now? I’m sure you’ll improve!

“Jack-o-lantern”（ジャックオランタン）

そうです！Halloweenの季節によく見る、顔のついたカボチャです♪

それでは、なぜこの顔つきカボチャがHalloweenで使われるかはご存じですか？

答えは、、

古代のアイルランドにて、顔の形をさせて中身をくり抜いたカボチャを

庭先に置くことで、悪霊を払っていたのが元々の由来との事です！

その文化を持った人達がアメリカへ移住し、その文化が根付いたよう。

Hello everyone!

We’re finally getting settled in at the new Kita Oji school.

It always takes a little time to adapt to a new environment. At first, some of us had difficulty finding things and remembering the room numbers. How about you? Have you gotten used to coming to the new branch?

One thing that has been easy to get used to is the big lobby space. It’s a comfortable place to relax before or after your lesson. You can also come and have a rest while shopping at the AEON mall! Grab a coffee and have a chat with one of our instructors!

Useful Phrases:

“get used to” = adapt/adjust to a new situation
“settle in” = become comfortable living in a new home/location

We’re all looking forward to seeing you when you visit!
