音楽に関することが趣味のCalvin先生は
やはり生まれ育った環境の影響が強いのかもしれませんね🤭✨

English Culture: Rave scene
In England the rest of the UK, the music scene is a big part of the culture. Specifically, the rave scene is one aspect that has been a prominent existence for decades. Genres along the lines of drum and bass, garage and so on, these events are extremely popular. Those who attend are typically the type of person to have an abundance of energy and love for the music. Ages range anywhere from teens to middle aged people. Types of raves can range from a shed in someone’s garden to a warehouse in a field somewhere. This is an idea of the scale of popularity as it shows that anyone and everyone can organise their own event if they are capable.
These events are typically a one night event, but there are some who are hardcore enough to extend the time and continue to rave for days after the initial start time/day. This is the scale of people’s potential energy they are able to use for these events. Fueled by alcohol and the adrenaline that their love for music provides is enough to keep them at it for hours on end (although it is key to keep hydrated as you will sweat like a hound!).
I myself have participated in many raves before and it is a truly intoxicating feeling getting lost in the music and do nothing but purely enjoy the atmosphere and have a great time with the friends I went with.
As fun as it is and as much as I recommend the experience, I will warn you all that it can get pretty crazy so proceed with caution to an extent! But all in all, have fun!

オーストラリアと日本のコンビニエンスストアの違い
について教えてくれました🏪✨
You walk through the automatic doors, the rush of cold air greets you, while a familiar tune announces your entry to the friendly staff who welcome you in.
This is a common experience for convenience stores here in Japan, but not so down under!
Firstly, there are less chains operating there (no Family Mart! Though you will find many 7/11 branches) and less shops overall. Instead of being operated by multiple staff – many stores have only one employee. With smaller independent businesses this might be the owner themselves.
This is because inner-city convenience stores are either smaller than their Japanese counterparts or don’t have the same facilities – (food isn’t cooked in-store).
Instead, the one staff member will be perched semi-permanently behind the counter which is covered in all manner of goods: candy, lighters and other objects which leaves very little space! Sometimes they are behind security glass, especially when attached to a service station (fuel station).
Fami-chiki might be popular here, but sausage rolls and pies are really popular there and any Australian will try and get you to try one if you ever visit and they find out you haven’t had one before.
Those are just a few of the differences between the two countries. I hope you visit someday and try a slurpie – just watch out for the drop bears!

When thinking about my time here at NOVA, there are many different perks that come to mind. Here I will give three examples of what I think of when I consider the various perks and attributes to working at NOVA.
1. The first thing I’d like to express is the helpfulness, gregariousness and friendliness of the staff. This goes for both those working behind the desks as well as my fellow teachers and colleagues. Everyone I have met here working has been of an exceptional caliber, not only in professionality but also in terms of friendliness and the all too scarce quality of human kindness.
2. The second aspect I’d love to share is the excellent quality of teaching material. The various lessons and books used in NOVA offer exceptional pedagogical influence. The lessons use fun and relatable topics in order to illustrate grammatical function and elements of English language prosody in a way that is both informative and fun.
3. Lastly, and most importantly in my opinion, the most exceptional and rewarding part of working at NOVA is working with my students. I have had so many lessons that are both informative and highly entertaining. I’m always extremely happy and excited to work with my students, not only to work through a lesson but also to have general conversations and to get to know each other. I’ve had so much fun meeting different students and getting to know each of my students. I’ve been surprised by how much I have in common with each of my students. It seems as if every time I meet a new students there’s always at least one thing that we have in common and can connect through!

本日がはCalvin先生に学生時代楽しかったイベントを教えて頂きました😳
さっそく見てみましょう！👀✨
In England, we have a tradition for students who are in their final year of high school. Some people have different names for it, but in my school we called it “muck-up day”. It is a part of a week long event where students have fun dressing up with themes as well as different games and events. The premise for muck-up day however, is that for 1 day any member of the final year of school is allowed to pull pranks all across the school. This can involve anything from throwing toilet paper across the school, to shooting people with water guns! Over the years there have been many crazy and hilarious pranks, my favourite being the one where a group of students wrapped the entire staff room in cling film so the teachers were trapped inside for a while! Understandably, the teachers banned this prank following this event… but nonetheless, the creativity of the students never ceased.
For my final year, me and my friends went into the main study area while no one was there and proceeded to zip-tie everyone’s bags and all of the chairs and tables together, as well as all of the scissors so that no one could cut the ties off. We watched and laughed as they came back to see everything tied together as if Spider-Man had just been through! And yet again, we had that prank banned for the following years as well.
This event is a good way for the students to blow off some final steam as they bid farewell to their long school life before they head off for exams and eventually university.
