Hello my name is Jade!
For those of you that I haven’t met before, please let me introduce myself!
I started teaching at Nova late last year so I’m a relatively new teacher here, but I’ve been teaching English in Japan for 5+ years now.
My hometown is Sydney, Australia. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to go back for the past 2 years, but I hope to be able to go back later this year. I dearly miss the sunny weather and relaxed atmosphere in Sydney. Also the food! The seafood in Australia is amazing, and I can’t wait to eat authentic fish and chips again soon.
In my free time I enjoy watching films and meeting up with my friends at cafes. I especially love watching films at the cinema, but nowadays I mostly watch movies and TV dramas at home via streaming sites. A series that I watched recently that I highly recommend is “The Queen’s Gambit”. It tells the story of a chess prodigy, and how she deals with her failures and successes on her journey to become a world champion chess player.
Recently, I have also rekindled my love for reading, and am currently reading books by Banana Yoshimoto. Her books paint an image of Japan that I feel is still very much prominent nowadays, and I’m enjoying finding similarities between the observations the characters in her books make, and those of my own.
I love to talk about films and books, so if you have any recommendations please let me know!
