This is Rob from Nova in Nagasaki. Happy November!
I love this season. How about you? Autumn is my favourite season in Japan, because it’s not too hot and not too cold. It’s the perfect time to go out and enjoy the park or the local sites.
As you may know, I’m from Cornwall which is in The UK. The weather is very different there. At this time of year, it’s starting to get much cooler and the leaves start to change colour. It’s really nice, except that this is also the season when we start getting more storms and strong winds.
My home town’s name is The Lizard. It’s a really beautiful village with some nice pubs and lots of shops for tourists. There is also a very famous old lighthouse at “The Point” which is the most southerly point in England.
The Lizard is on a peninsula which means it’s surrounded by ocean on three sides, similar to Shimabara. It’s also the most southern village in England, so we get lots of tourists every summer. However, in this season it’s very quiet and most of the shops close for 6 months!
Cornwall is also world famous for scones with clotted cream and strawberry/raspberry jam. You can eat them all over the county and if you eat them with a cup of tea, it’s called “a cream tea”. Have you ever tried a cream tea or scones?

私はこの季節が大好きです。皆さんはどうですか？秋は日本で一番好きな季節です。暑すぎず、寒すぎないからです。外出して公園や地元の名所を楽しむのに最適な季節です。
ご存知かもしれませんが、私はイギリスのコーンウォール出身です。そこでは気候が大きく異なります。この時期になると、ぐっと冷え込んできて、葉っぱも色づき始めます。とても気持ちがいいのですが、この時期は嵐や強風が吹き始める季節でもあります。
私の故郷の名前は「リザード」といいます。とても美しい村で、素敵なパブや観光客向けのお店がたくさんあります。また、イングランドの最南端に位置する「ザ・ポイント」には、とても有名な古い灯台があります。
The Lizardは半島にあるので、島原と同じように三方を海に囲まれています。また、イギリスで最も南に位置する村なので、毎年夏にはたくさんの観光客が訪れます。しかし、この季節はとても静かで、ほとんどのお店が半年間閉まってしまいます。
コーンウォールは、クロテッドクリームとイチゴやラズベリーのジャムを塗ったスコーンも世界的に有名です。 コーンウォールの至る所で食べることができます。また、紅茶と一緒に食べることを「クリームティー」と言います。皆さんはクリームティーやスコーンを食べたことがありますか？
