Self introduction.(自己紹介)
My name is Alex. I’m 23 years old and my hometown is Manchester in England.
I live in Fuji, Shizuoka, and have lived here for about 9 months. 🗻
My hobbies are playing guitar🎸, piano🎹 and singing.🎤
In my free time I like to go clothes shopping, eat delicious food, discover trendy cafés and go to karaoke with my friends.
What has been your favorite experience in Japan so far?
(今までで、日本でのお気に入りの体験は?)
My favorite experience in Japan so far was when I visited Yamanashi with my friends.
We made hand-cut soba noodles and then got to eat them after.
I went to Yamanashi after being in Japan for only a couple of months, so it was a great experience for getting to know my coworkers.
The noodles were super delicious and it felt even more special to share the food and fun times with new friends.
What have been your biggest culture shocks after coming to Japan?
(日本に来て、一番のカルチャーショックは?)
One of the biggest shocks I’ve had since coming to Japan is just how hot and humid the summers are here.
In England the weather is very mild and gray, so comparatively Japanese summer feels so tropical!
I was also surprised by how safely people drive here.
Drivers often stop to let me cross the road, and I rarely see traffic accidents or instances of road rage.
I think English people tend to be selfish drivers, so I was surprised by this difference when I first arrived in Japan.
What is the thing you like the most about Japan?
(日本について一番好きなことは?)
I like living in Japan because the people here are so friendly and polite.
Whether it’s students in my lessons, or people I meet outside of work, I’m grateful for the kindness I have been shown by everyone after moving here.
My Japanese language skill is very bad, which I recognize can be very inconvenient in some situations, nevertheless Japanese people usually try their best to help me, and for this I am filled with gratitude.
Besides the people, I am also lucky enough to live near Mt Fuji.
The Japanese mountainous landscape is truly beautiful and never gets old.
What’s your favorite Japanese food that you’ve tried so far?
(これまで試した中で一番好きな日本食は?)
I love lots of Japanese food, but I especially enjoy Soba and Tempura because it’s taste is simple, but delicious.
I also love going to conveyor-belt Sushi with my friends, because I we can order lots and lots of different varieties, and have a competition to see who can finish the most plates! 🍣
For my birthday celebration I went for Yakiniku with my friends. 🍖
I love how the food is cooked at the table.
Smelling and watching the meat cooking somehow makes it taste extra yummy!
