Summer is coming. Every year when summer comes it reminds me of summer growing up in Perth, Australia. First of all, Australia’s seasons are the opposite of Japan’s so Christmas was always a part of the summer of my youth. When I arrived in Japan, it was summer and the humidity hit me like a brick wall. I was used to the dry summers of Perth. Every summer afternoon a sea breeze blows in from the south west called the Fremantle Doctor. The name comes from the fact that the breeze comes from the direction of the Fremantle port and it cools down the temperature of the hot summer days, healing us like a doctor. A number of my friends had pools in their yards and I would spend many summers vacations in their pools. The hot and humid Saitama summer is coming and it makes me want to go back to those days. Stay safe and drink lots of water!
