Studying English can be a lot of fun when you connect it to real life.
A great example of this is food service!
Going to restaurants, reading menus and talking to staff are excellent ways to practice English in a natural way!
Each restaurant has its own personality.
Some are quiet and relaxing while others are busy and exciting.
The differences between countries food service are interesting!
For example, in many Japanese restaurants you have to call over the staff members to order food.
In England, doing that might be considered rude!※
Fun fact: Background music in restaurants can affect how fast you eat!
When the music is calm and slow, people tend to eat slowly and stay longer. When the music is fast and loud, people often eat quicker and leave sooner. That`s why some fast food restaurants use upbeat music,
where as cafes usually play softer music!
So let`s discuss the differences in food service with our countries and practice what we could say when in an English speaking restaurant!
