Pizza might have originated in Italy, but it was perfected in New York.
New York style pizza is one of the most famous foods in the United States.
It is known for its large, thin slices and crispy crust. People often fold the slice
in half when they eat it. This makes it easier to hold and gives it a unique texture, almost like a pizza sandwich.
This style of pizza came to America in the late 1800s and early 1900s. During this time, many Italian immigrants moved to New York City. They brought their food and cooking traditions with them, including pizza.
In 1905, the first pizzeria in the United States, Lombardi`s, opened in New York City.
It was started by Gennaro Lombardi. He changed traditional Italian pizza to fit American tastes.
The slices became larger, and the crust became thinner and crisper.
Today, New York style pizza is different from Italian pizza, but it still has its roots in Italy.
It is a great example of how cultures can mix and create something delicious.
