Once we crossed the bridge into the second island we decided to go off route to see a viewpoint. Unfortunately the route  we used meant that we had to go up a mountain so we were very tired and our legs hurt a lot. However, once we reached the top of the mountain we had an amazing view of the island and the other islands around it. It felt like we were on a different planet. Following this we joined the original route and continued to the next island where  we visited a beautiful art museum and a lovely shrine! Following this we made our way to the Omishima, where we would be spending the night. By this point we were exhausted and we had to cycle all the way across the island uphill. By the time we arrived at the guest house I felt like my legs were going to fall off! Luckily our host was a very friendly woman, and she recommended us a small okonomyaki restaurant nearby. After we ate there we felt much better and we returned to the guest house to relax. We planned to sleep early but we ended up speaking with our host for many hours. She offered us many drinks and even sang and played the sanshin to us. It was an amazing experience!

The next morning we went to the local onsen. This was very soothing and helped our muscles relax. Following this, we began cycling again and we made some quick progress. At the end of this island we got the biggest scared of the trip. Firstly, as we were moving up to the bridge I was something moving in the middle of the road. As I began to slow down I heard my friend shout “Snake!”. I began to cycle as quickly as possible and I didn’t look back for a few minutes until I knew we were in the clear. Finally, we made our way to Imabari. The final bridge was 4km long and the view was unbelievable. I felt like I was cycling through the sky. When we arrived in Imabari we dropped our bikes off at the rental stand before going for some drinks! Overall, it was an amazing trip and one of the highlights of my Japan experience.
