My Walk to Asamushi

I decided to walk to Asamushi this Tuesday. I started my walk at 11:50 AM, and at first, everything was going well. The weather was beautiful, though very hot. I usually handle hot weather pretty well, so I didn’t think too much about it, believing I’d be able to reach Asamushi before the heat really got to me. During my walk, I came across a cool little shrine where I took a few minutes to play my guitar. I also passed a waterway covered in greenery and full of life—there was even a duck making its bed in the grass. One thing I really appreciate about Japan is the amount of vending machines. If they weren’t everywhere, I probably would’ve been completely dehydrated. Every time I saw one, I bought some water and poured it over myself to stay cool and hydrated. By the third hour, I finally reached the tunnel to Asamushi, which was really cool to walk through. It had writing all over the walls that made the experience even more interesting. But at that point, my legs were killing me, and the heat was hitting harder than I thought but I pushed on. I eventually made it to the ocean side and then to a Lawson, where I collapsed for about 30 minutes. I rehydrated and ate something to refuel. I had originally planned to climb the mountain behind a shrine I found, but I was too exhausted. Instead, I soaked my feet in the hot spring and headed home, not getting back until around 4:40 PM. I’d definitely go to Asamushi again but next time, I won’t be walking!
