Near the city of Kusatsu are the Konze Alps. This is a beautiful mountainous area that is characterized by large granite and sandstone boulders, lush green fauna, and stunning views of lake Biwa from the top! The loop trail that traverses these mountains can be done in one day but can be a bit challenging for beginner hikers. This area is also quite popular amongst rock climbers. There are many spots that make for good climbing routes.
I climbed through the Konze alps to Tengu Iwa! This hiking trail was very challenging at times but once you climbed out on to Tengu Iwa, the surrounding views of Lake Biwa and Shiga were absolutely stunning.
