Once again my favourite season Autumn has arrived! The very first time I came to Japan many years ago was in Autumn and I was blown away by how beautiful the country was, especially Kyoto. The vivid red leaves combined with the centuries old temples and shrines made a big impression on me and I knew I wanted to come back. I think it’s one of the big selling points of Japan and everyone who visits raves about how beautiful the scenery is when covered in red and yellow foliage.
Besides Kyoto, anther one of my favourite places in Autumn is Nikko. I’ve been there a couple of times as it’s much easier to get to compared to jumping on a bullet train. The red Shinkyo Bridge across the river makes a classic Japanese scene, especially if you’re lucky enough to have a some girls in kimono posing on the bridge. I really love Kegon Falls nearby too, although last time I went it was shrouded in mist and we could only see it when we got down to the bottom. I’ll have to go back on a clear, sunny day!
This year I’d like to go somewhere new though. To be honest, I’m kind of running out of spots to see in Tokyo as I’ve already been to all the popular places such as the parks and gardens and the shrines and temples. I’m thinking about going to Kawaguchi-ko to get some photos of Mt. Fuji as this seems a popular Autumn view. The only problem is timing. Too early and the leaves are not colourful enough, too late and they are all gone and the weather has to be nice because I don’t want to be standing in the rain looking at clouds!
