読書の秋！ということで、オーストラリア出身Jeremy先生からおすすめの本のご紹介です📚
少し遅くなりましたが、6月に紹介した「積ん読」についてのブログの続きとなります。

Back in June, I posted about the concept of 積ん読, the concept of collecting books to have and potentially read later. In this post, I’d like to follow up on this concept and provide some English language recommendations.
As most of my book preferences tend towards more esoteric (less popular, more intended for a smaller audience, less widely printed and sold) science fiction, fantasy or history, some of these might be a bit hard to locate and most likely have no Japanese language editions available.
Starting with fantasy, rather than one specific book, I’d like to actually recommend an author’s entire collection, that of ‘Tamora Pierce’. Her books are perfect for all levels of English ability in my opinion. For the beginners at least some of them, unlike others I will be recommending in future posts, have Japanese language editions available. Furthermore, her earliest books are also relatively short for fantasy books.
For the more advanced students, on the other hand, some of her later books dive more into different styles of writing such as diary entries and multiple viewpoints, thus increasing the challenge.
Within her bibliography, the series I recommend the most is ‘Circle of Magic’ as while it is short and simpler like her earlier works, it was written further into her career and is thus of slightly better quality. This 4 book series focuses on 4 orphan children who have strange and unusual magic powers, even for the world of magic they live in, and shows them gaining control of and beginning to master their powers.
Of all Tamora Pierce’s works, this is probably my favourite, as it was the first I ever read and one of the few books I took with me when I moved to Japan, leaving the rest of my collection in the hands of my family.
In future posts, I will provide even more fantasy, science fiction and historical fiction recommendations, but if you would like some more good recommendations, please feel free to come in and ask me for some recommendations!
