2月14日はバレンタインデー🍫✨
日本では「女性から男性へチョコレートを贈る日」というイメージが強いですが、実は海外、特にアメリカの祝い方に違いがあることをご存じでしょうか？

アメリカのバレンタインデーは、恋人同士だけでなく、家族や友達、大切な人へ「感謝や愛情を伝える日」として親しまれています。
学校や職場、家庭でもさまざまな形でお祝いされ、日本とは少し違った温かい雰囲気があります。

今回は、アメリカ出身の講師が、英語でアメリカのバレンタインデーについて紹介してくれます。

In the United States, Valentine’s Day is a popular holiday all about showing people you care. Whether it’s through a small card or a fancy gift, it’s a day full of hearts and sweets. Both men and women give their special someone a gift.

For kids, Valentine’s Day is a big event. Usually, students decorate their own “mailboxes” made from shoeboxes or paper bags. Kids walk around the room dropping small cards into each other’s boxes. These cards often have jokes or pictures of famous characters on them, and they almost always come with a piece of candy, like a lollipop or a chocolate heart.

For adults, the holiday is a bit more serious and romantic. Instead of swapping cards in a classroom, couples usually give each other bigger gifts like bouquets of roses, boxes of chocolates, or jewelry. Many people go out for a nice dinner, which makes it one of the busiest nights of the year for restaurants.

Many women also celebrate Galentine’s Day on February 13th. This is a day for women to leave their partners at home and go out to brunch or dinner with their best female friends. It’s a great way to celebrate “BFFs” and make sure everyone feels loved, whether they are in a relationship or not.
