Valentine’s Day in Japan is always a bit different when you’re married. My students excitedly give me chocolates, some heartfelt and others just giri-choco (obligation chocolate), which always makes me smile. But at home, it’s a bit more personal. My wife and I usually keep things low-key—maybe cooking a nice dinner together or enjoying a quiet evening. We don’t follow the typical “exchange gifts” tradition; instead, it’s about spending time together. I love the relaxed vibe here in Japan on Valentine’s Day—it’s not about grand gestures, but rather the little moments that make you feel loved.
