Hello everyone!
Are you feeling the “Christmas cheer”? Have you hung up your Christmas stockings?
Christmas was always my favorite time of year. I would always enjoy eating chocolate, especially Toblerone, which is a Swiss chocolate! Me and my brother would receive a giant bar each, and it would take us a really long time to eat them. So good!
Christmas, as a holiday, hasn’t always existed as Christmas in western culture. The winter was always a perilous time of year, where slight planning mistakes or an unsuccessful harvest during the year was a death sentence for families and communities.
To celebrate surviving a year and encourage springs return, families would gather and eat a large meal and light large bonfires. This time was called “Yule”, a midwinter pagan festival. This is where we get our traditions that involve Mistletoe and Holly wreathes!
