敦賀アルプラザ校の講師Sandiが、様々な国のユニークな食べ物について
シェアしてくれました🌟
In light of the festive season. We would like to share some of the most unique food you can eat in countries where most of our teachers are from🍱🥮🍽️
Countries such as the USA, the UK, South Africa, Australia, Canada and Japan, of course.
In the USA you can eat：
1. Deep-Fried Butter
Yes, literal butter dipped in batter and deep fried at state fairs.
2. Rocky Mountain Oysters
Spoiler: Not seafood. They are bull testicles, cooked and eaten like fried meat.
3. Kool-Aid Pickles
Pickles soaked in sweet red Kool-Aid. It’s sour + sweet = strange combo!
In the UK：
1. Jellied Eels
Eels cooked and set in a salty jelly. Very old London dish.
2. Marmite
A salty, strong yeast paste, loved or hated.
3. Black Pudding
A sausage made with pork blood. Popular for breakfast!
In South Africa：
1. Walkie Talkies
Chicken heads and feet. It’s street food in many townships.
2. Mopane Worms
Large caterpillars eaten fried, dried, or cooked in sauce.
3. Smiley
A grilled sheep’s head, named because the cooked mouth looks like it’s smiling.
In Australia ：
1. Witchetty Grubs
Large white larvae eaten raw or roasted by Indigenous Australians.
2. Vegemite
Similar to Marmite: extremely salty fermented yeast spread.
3. Kangaroo Meat
Common in supermarkets; very lean and surprisingly popular.
In Canada ：
1. Ketchup Chips
Potato chips flavored like tomato ketchup, surprisingly addictive.
2. BeaverTails
Not actual beaver tails, but fried dough pastries shaped like one.
3. Moose Milk
A strong holiday punch made with rum, milk, and ice cream (adults only).
In Japan ：
1. Natto
Fermented soybeans with a strong smell and sticky strings.
2. Shirako
Literally “fish sperm sac,” usually cod. It’s eaten raw or cooked.
3. Basashi
Raw horse meat sashimi, especially popular in Kumamoto.
