For me, autumn is probably only just behind winter for me in a ranking of seasons.
Having the heat and humidity of summer, my least favourite season, give way to the cold weather of winter is extremely enjoyable.
Also, living here in Niihama, there are a lot of beautiful “Kouyou” spots where you can see the leaves change colour like Takinomiya park, Kokuryo river or Kurose Dam in Saijo.
Lastly, Niihama’s local festival, the “Taiko Matsuri”is also held in autumn and can be quite a spectacle with all the parade floats and drums. (Although the sound of drums practicing all day every day in the lead up can be quite annoying at times.)

One of my favorite things to do is pick fruit!
I grew up in a town where blueberry picking was really popular, so it was something I did often as a kid. Since moving to Japan, I’ve noticed that fruit is very seasonal here, and it can sometimes be hard to find exactly what you’re looking for.
But I’ve also discovered that fruit picking is quite common on Shikoku, thanks to all the great farms in the area! So far, my favorite experiences have been strawberry picking and blueberry picking.
Next year, my goal is to try grape picking and peach picking!
