Jeremy先生のお盆休みの思い出をまだまだいただいているのでご紹介しちゃいます😂
In the previous post I focused on two of the cities and places I visited. In this post, I will focus on four more and give some more city by city food/place/activity recommendations.
Sendai – the “るーぽる” bus pass is an excellent way to travel around Sendai (and in particular Sendai Castle – “Aoba-jo”). As for food, while gyutan and the edamame “Zunda shake” are popular and delicious , my favorite place was actually a small cookie shop on the entrance road to Zuihoden which has large delicious American style cookies.
Aomori – for Aomori, let’s skip over Aomori city and instead, I’d like to recommend Hirosaki castle, just south of Aomori city. Hirosaki is one of only 12 castle structures that actually date back to the Edo period or older. (Most castle structures were destroyed or removed in the Meiji, Taisho and early Showa eras and reconstructed later.) The castle itself is quite nice and the parks around it are really beautiful.
Sapporo – for Sapporo city, I have two recommendations, one food based and one for sightseeing. Firstly, the Botanic Garden for Hokkaido University is a big and really nice cold climate garden relatively close to Sapporo Station and is quite large. Secondly, I have to recommend some ramen, in particular the miso ramen sold at “ラーメン札幌一粒庵”. This was among the best ramen I ate on the trip (and I ate a lot of ramen lol).
Wakkanai – this was the goal point of my trip and I would recommend this place strongly for anyone wanting to go somewhere unique. As most places here are focused around the theme of “the northern most point in all Japan” and are worth visiting, instead I would like to give advice for those coming by public transport- check the weather! Rain and snow both cause the train lines to shut down and can wreck your plans if you’re not careful. I got hit by heavy rain and had to ride a very long, 5 hour replacement bus service myself.
