South Africa, my home. Where do I even start!?
South Africa is popularly known for it’s cultural diversity and multilingualism, it’s beautiful beaches and wildlife. There are 1 official languages in my country, English being the most commonly spoken.
Since the end of the apartheid regime in 1994, South Africa now enjoys democratic freedom which means everyone enjoys equal rights unlike before. The start of democracy increased tourist’s attraction from 3.7 million in 1994, this figure increased to 10.6 million in 2019 before the COVID 19 pandemic.
There are so many cities and places to tour in my country, it at depends on the ‘vibe’ and atmosphere you’re looking for. The 3 cities that attract the most tourists each year are Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg. Each of these cities are vastly different but equally beautiful. Cape Town is a quiet and affluent coastal city. It hosts the famous Table Mountain, white- sand private beaches, vineyards and Robbin Island, where Nelson Mandela was held captive for 27 years.
The city of Durban is my hometown, where I was born and raised. Durban is also a coastal city with beaches, but is more affordable than the affluent Cape Town. Either than the beaches, this city is known for it’s spicy curries and vibrant nightlife. Durban is also known as ‘home if the Zulu nation’ which is both a language and tribe that originates in Durban KwaZulu Natal.
Then there’s the City of Gold, Johannesburg, where gold and coal mining began in the 19th-century. This is where all the hustle and bustle is, where people go to make money and support their families. This city hosts the richest square mile in Africa, called Sandton which is a cosmopolitan melting pot of global trades, cultures and trends.
