There are three kinds of main nutrients often called macronutrients. These are fats, protein and carbohydrates (also known as carbs.) The modern diet often includes a large number of carbs, such as rice, potatoes, bread and so on. Eating this way means that we are constantly converting sugar from carbohydrates into energy within our bodies.

However, in a “ketogenic diet” you eat a very low amount of carbs and eat a high amount of fats. This can be from fatty animal foods such as beef, butter and fish, or from high fat low carb plant foods, such as olives and avocados.

With this way of eating your body starts producing ketones which enables your body to automatically burn fat. This is a great way to lose any extra fat you may have, which will also improve your general health.

I often try different diets as I find the research and theory behind what fuels our bodies to be a fascinating subject. So far I have been eating lots of butter, eggs, lamb and fish. I feel pretty good but I`m not sure if my body has started producing essential ketones yet. I’m also fasting till 6pm which means no food for most of the day. One day I will achieve the 6 pack abs I dream of having.
