イギリスのスイーツについて聞いてみました🎶
In England, we have many, many types of sweets and cakes! Afternoon tea was an English tradition for a long time, which means we had to make a lot of cakes to eat during it. Here, I’ll list and describe some of my favorites:
Cherry Bakewell
These tarts contain layers of cake, cherry jam and icing. Shortcrust pastry forms the base and outer layer. All that is completed with a cherry on top. Though often sold in small pieces, bakewells can also be served at full cake size. If you like almonds, then you would like bakewells as they are in the frangipane (French almond pastry cream) and often placed atop the icing too.
Victoria Sponge Cake
Sponge cakes are simple but sweet. Named after Queen Victoria, as she was said to really enjoy it, Victoria sponge cake is a timeless classic. Dating back to 1861, sponge cake consists of a buttery sponge cake in two layers (top and bottom) which both cream and jam sandwiched between. This cake is a special favorite for afternoon tea.
Battenberg Cake
This cake was allegedly a homage to the marriage between Prince Louis of Battenberg, Germany, and Queen Victoria’s granddaughter. Battenberg cake is easily identifiable by its yellow and pink checkered inside. These pieces of sponge cake are sandwiched together with apricot jam, then wrapped in marzipan.
