節分も終わり、もうすぐバレンタインデーですね🎀
アイルランド出身のRyan先生に、アイルランドでは2月に何かイベントある？と聞いてみたところ「Pancake Tuesday!!」と・・
詳しく聞いてみました🥞✨
In Ireland, in February we have a celebration called Shrove Tuesday; or Pancake Tuesday. This day is 47 days before Easter Sunday and it`s a feast set before Ash Wednesday, a day which marks the period of Lent. Lent is a period in Christianity in which people abstain from luxury items; such as sweets or alcohol. The event is rooted from the time when Jesus Christ fasted in the desert for 40 days and nights as told in the Bible. This day is commonly called pancake tuesday as traditionally people use up common left over household items, which commonly tends to be flour and other assortments used in making pancakes. Nowadays its seen as a fun holiday, even for those who aren`t catholic, and in Ireland we use this period to remove one thing we like for the 47 day period to show our faith and self-restraint, instead of all luxuries. It`s a common question during this time to ask someone `what are you giving up for lent?`, and when I was a child, `chocolate` was ususally my answer.
