ケーキ、クッキー、お団子、ドーナツ…世の中には美味しいスイーツが沢山ありますよね🍰🍪🍭
今日は甘いスイーツの一つ、パンケーキにまつわるお話をイギリス人講師のGemmaが紹介してくれます🥞💛
イギリスのクリスチャンはイエスが砂漠で40日間過ごした聖書物語に基づいて40日間ご馳走を食べない期間があります。

Pancake Day
Did you know there was a day called Pancake Day? Let’s find out about this delicious event.
Pancake Day is celebrated on a Christian observance called Shrove Tuesday. It’s always 47 days before Easter Sunday. In 2022, it was held on March 1st.
The day after Shrove Tuesday is called Ash Wednesday and it’s the start of Lent. Lent is based on a Bible story where Jesus spent 40 days in the desert. Many Christians and non-Christians give up treats during this 40 day period in the spirit of Jesus’ story.
In the past, before giving up treats for Lent, many people would try to use up the rich, sweet ingredients in their kitchen cupboards such as eggs, milk and sugar. For Christians in the U.K., making pancakes was a great way to use up all of these ingredients and enjoy a final treat before the strict 40 days of Lent. Christians in other countries have their own traditional Shrove Tuesday treats to enjoy before Lent.
These days, pancakes are made with a variety of toppings including syrup, honey, chocolate, banana and blueberries. They’re delicious! However, giving up treats for 40 days is pretty tough. Could you give up your favorite treats for 40 days? Let me know!
