本日はBrendan先生に
日本に来てびっくりしたことについて聞いてみました！
日本に来る前にちゃんと文化について調べていたので、
cultureshockはあまり感じなかったと話をしていましたが、
それでも日本でびっくりするところはあったそうです😲

Surprising Things in Japan

When visiting a new country for the first time, some things can be surprising if you are not prepared. These are some things that surprised me:

• The store staff always “いらっしゃいませ!” I didn’t know what this meant, and I didn’t know how to react to it! Now it is normal for me, and I know what to do.
• Japanese fashion was a bit surprising as well. In my hometown, everyone just wore jeans and a T-shirt, and maybe a sweatshirt if it was cold. In Japan, both men and women put more effort into the clothes they wear. It was surprising to see this for the first time
• Trying to find the entrance to a store or business was a bit more involved than it was in the US. In the US, most businesses are separated and on the first floor, so it is simple to find the entrance. In Japan, There are many businesses stacked up in one building, so I sometimes had trouble finding the door. Now, I’m used to it.
• Using a button to call a server in a restaurant was completely new for me. In the US, you have to wait for the server to come to you. I was happy to be able to call the server any time I want. It’s convenient!
• McDonalds is very similar in Japan and the US. The taste is almost exactly the same. I was surprised by how similar it is. It’s like the taste of home!
