Halloweenは日本でも浸透してきておりますが、
実はイギリス💂にも、この時期に行事があります
今回は、Gemma先生からイギリスで毎年11月にある行事について
英語で紹介してもらいます。
🔥 Bonfire Night🔥
On the 5th November every year, the U.K. celebrates Bonfire Night, also known as Guy Fawkes Night. This event has an interesting story, which I’d like to tell you about today.
In 1605 on the 5th November, a man named Guy Fawkes plotted to destroy the Houses of Parliament, where the British government works. He placed explosives under the House of Lords, where King James I was going to be visiting on that day.
Luckily, the explosives were found. The plot failed, Guy Fawkes was caught and the King survived. Every year, the U.K. celebrates this anniversary by making big bonfires. These days, we drink hot drinks, roast marshmallows and other snacks on the fire and enjoy beautiful fireworks displays.
We also remember the event with a famous poem, which begins as follows:
“Remember, remember the fifth of November,
Gunpowder treason and plot.
We see no reason
Why gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot!”
