母の日が、アメリカとイギリスではお祝いする日が違うのはご存知でしたか。
それをGregが教えてくれました。
This year Mother’s day is approaching on May 9th.
While this holiday is celebrated in many countries, did you know the US, (Japan) and the UK celebrate it on seperate dates?
The British version of Mother’s day or Mothering Sunday as it is traditionally called, started hundreds of years ago as part of a religious Christian festival and is thus held during Lent, three weeks before easter.
However, in the USA the event started when a woman called Anna Jarvis held a memorial service for her own mother in 1907 on May 12th.
Therefore it is celebrated on every second sunday in May as part of a non-religious holiday.
