今日は、水曜日にレッスンがあるJohnに”small talk”について教えてもらいました。
皆様、”small talk”と聞いてどんなイメージをお持ちですか？
”small talk”って何？って思う方も多いのではないのでしょうか。
日本人にはない感覚ですが、外国の方にとって会話を始めるのに重要なポイントなんですね！
The Importance of ” Small Talk ”
” Small talk ” is what we call the beginning of a conversation with someone who is not a close friend.
It usually involves unimportant or sometimes uninteresting questions.
This is meant to ” break the ice ” , which means to start at a familiar and comfortable level of discussion and work your way up.
Normally, small talk is welcomed by both people because it takes the pressure off of having to be very interesting immediately, but relying on small talk for too long will leave a poor impression.
Examples of small talk topic :
How’s the weather?
What did you do today?
How are you?
What do you like to do in your spere time?
