Hello everyone,
I hope that you’re all doing well, and that you’re enjoying the cooler weather.
Today, I’d like to talk about Halloween in the UK.
Some people actually never went trick or treating; it wasn’t so common or popular in the UK about 20 years ago, unlike in America. Also, shops didn’t really sell so many Halloween-themed products.
However, these days, trick or treating is a lot more common; for example, many families take their children trick or treating. However, some people don’t like people trick or treating and, as a result, put notices on their doors asking people not to come to their houses for trick or treating purposes.
Also, these days, there are many more Halloween-themed products in shops, ranging from costumes to candy (which, in the UK, are called “sweets”). In some shops, such as big supermarkets, the staff even dress up in Halloween costumes (though this is usually optional).
Overall, Halloween still isn’t as widely celebrated as it seems to be in America, though it does seem to be becoming more popular.
How about in Japan? How have people’s attitudes towards Halloween changed over recent years?
Thank you for reading, and good luck with your English studies!
