そこでベテラン講師Frank先生にバレンタインデーについて
聞いてみました！
On Feb 14th many countries around the world celebrate a day of love. Gifts, flowers and romantic messages are given and exchanged.
However in Japan, the concept and celebration of Valentine`s Day is a little different.The traditional way to celebrate Valentine`s Day is for women to give chocolate and gifts to men that they like.
Valentine`s Day in Japan only became popular back in the 1950`s, but in the west it has been around much longer. The name Valentine`s Day came from the martyrdom of two men named Valentine in the Roman Empire in the 3rd century.They were then honored by the Catholic Church and Valentine`s Day was created.
However, Valentine`s Day didn`t become associated with romantic love until the 14th century in England when the tradition of courtly love flourished.
From then Valentine`s Day grew into an occasion (but not a national holiday) where couples express their love for each other by giving flowers, gifts, confectionery and greeting cards.
