A Japanese Christmas cake is very different from sweets eaten at Christmas time in other countries around the world, which are variations on a cake/bread which contain dried fruits and chopped nuts. In the USA we eat fruit cake:
It is moist, often soaked in brandy or other liquor, and gets it’s dark color from molasses, which is a type of sugar syrup from sugarcane. In the UK they eat Christmas pudding:
It is similar but softer than an American fruitcake and is usually heated up before serving. In Germany they eat Stollen:
This is harder than the American and English versions, and is usually white with icing or sugar on top In Italy and Brazil they eat Panettone:
