先日よりアメリカやオーストリアのクリスマスについてご紹介してまいりましたが、本日は日本と西洋の国々のクリスマスケーキの違いについてオーストリア出身のJan講師に聞いてみました！
Christmas cake: Japanese vs Western
Did you know that western Christmas cake is very different to a Japanese Christmas cake?
In Japan, a Christmas cake is a strawberry shortcake.
In Western countries, a Christmas cake is a fruit cake. The cake is very heavy, and filled with dried fruits (and sometimes nuts too).
It may also contain brandy (for adults) and is often eaten with icing or heavy plain cream.
It’s very heavy, so you will probably feel full after eating a few small pieces.
In Australia, some people eat a Christmas pavlova.
A pavlova is made from egg white and sugar. It has a crunchy skin, and soft sweet inside.
The Christmas pavlova has fruits on top of a normal pavlova.
Unlike a western Christmas cake, it is very light.
