今回はイースターについてです😆💛

「復活祭」のことで、十字架にかけられて亡くなったイエス・キリストが、3日後に復活したことを祝うお祭りで、キリスト教においてはクリスマスと同じくらい重要なイベント！

🐰💛【How did you spend Easter in America?】🐰💛
Easter in America is quite the holiday for mostly kids.
Origins come from the Christian religion, but somehow morphed into a more cheery event for kids to hunt around the house and yard for eggs left by the mysterious, Easter Bunny.
Most families that are religious end up going to Church on Easter Sunday, and then they would have a family get-together to have dinner, but during the afternoon, the parents are outside while the kids are playing inside, hiding the eggs for the little ones to look for. In some cases, the men would be inside watching sports inside since that Sunday/weekend is a big sports weekend since more folks are at home.
My family had similar traditions when I was growing up. When my grandfather was still alive, the day or two before Easter Sunday, we would dye and paint eggs. We would wake up fairly early to go buy a 12 pack of eggs from the store. After getting back from the supermarket, we would boil the eggs. Once boiled, we would set them in the fridge to cool. After that, we would start getting the things together that we were going to use to dye and paint the eggs with. We would get maybe 4 or 5 plastic cups, because with those we are going to fill with water and then use food coloring . Next we would get a paper plate. With the plate we would put a few dabs of different color paints that we would use to draw and paint on the eggs. Then we would set out a few markers and maybe some stickers or glitter or something like that for extra accents.
After about an hour or so of the eggs cooling, now its the fun part!
My grandfather and I would sit at the kitchen table with our chilled hard-boiled eggs and start to plan out how many would be what color. Maybe 2-3 of each color? Maybe more of one color and less of another. We would start to place an egg into each cup of colored dye and let each one sit and soak in the ink on the shell from 5-10 minutes. 5 minutes would often give you a lighter color and 10+ usually gave it a darker one.
After an egg is fully dyed to how we want it, we would set it to the side and dunk another egg in until all the eggs are dyed.
Once all the eggs are dyed, now comes the paint!
Now we get to paint different designs, faces, anything we wanted on to them. One year, I painted a bunch of them with faces, and we stuck what we call Googly eyes on them to make it look a little more fun. After painting them, then we would draw anything else we wanted with markers.
Once every egg is dried, we put them back into the egg carton and put back in the fridge so the following morning or Easter Sunday, they would be good and ready to be hidden outside.
Usually a lot of my aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family would come over to my grandparents house to spend Easter together. Grandma and my aunts would be in the kitchen cooking a ton of food and usually during the day, my grandfather and uncles would be watching sports and drinking. At some point, someone in the family would go outside and start hiding the eggs and once hidden, they come back in and let everyone know we are going to get ready to go find what the Easter Bunny has left us.
While all the kids are outside looking for eggs, someone would be inside the house where they are hiding little plastic eggs, some filled with little toys, and others with candy. Once all the eggs are found inside, then the women and men would start with the final prepping of Easter Dinner. The kids would go and wash up and then remove whatever mess was in the kitchen or living room.
We always had a TON of food whenever we had a family get-together. Hawaiian, Filipino, Chinese and some American food was always being served in big amounts. My grandfather would also always bake a pie or cake as well before hand for us to have as desert.
After dinner, the kids usually go play again while all the grownups are sitting at the table drinking and talking.
It was always a good time spending that quality time with my grandfather during the holiday. Same goes for seeing and playing with a lot of my cousins.
Now that I am older, I get to pass that on to my nieces and nephews and spend time with them making and painting Easter eggs and hiding them for them to find while spending great time with family and friends!
