前回のブログに引き続き、本日もCaileeのアメリカ帰省の思い出ご紹介致します。先月Caileeが2週間ほどアメリカに帰省していて、楽しいことがいっぱいだったようで、たくさんの思い出を書いてくれたのでちょっとずつご紹介致します！

I also saw my friends while I was visiting the United States. We went to Philadelphia to go out to dinner and catch up! Most of my friends had missed me very much, and some even said how they wanted to come to Japan to visit me in the future. However, being in Philadelphia, which is a popular and well-known city in the United States, it was so vastly different from Tokyo. One thing is apparent, but Tokyo is so much cleaner than Philadelphia. Philadelphia has many trash cans and recycle bins in the street, but it’s very common to litter in the city, so there is more trash around for people to step on and trip over. Another difference is the fashion and style. Many people in the United States like to dress more causal and some wear their gym clothes when shopping or meeting friends. I feel like in Tokyo, everyone dresses very nice and cute! There is also more options for food in the United States compared to Japan. And the portions are larger too! While in Tokyo, there are a variety of foods from different cultures, but I mostly see more Japanese food in restaurants and stores.

🗽Caileeのアメリカ帰省の思い出⑥🗽

After the graduation ceremony and after the students celebrate their graduation with their family and friends, the students are then taken on a field trip to an indoor amusement park call “Project Graduation”. This is where the graduating seniors all come together to have fun at the indoor amusement park all night. The field trip goes from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. the next day. I experienced something similar when I graduated from high school in 2016. The next day, my sister came home in the morning exhausted. She had so much fun with her friends, but she slept all day to make up for the sleep she had lost.

🗽Caileeのアメリカ帰省の思い出⑤🗽

Once the ceremony was over, we all went out to lunch to celebrate. My sister wanted to go to a hibachi restaurant, since she loves Japanese food, and the food was so delicious. At a hibachi restaurant, the cook likes to put on a show for the customers, such as using fire, games, and knife tricks for entertainment. My family and I were having a fun time! However, I spoke Japanese to the cook, thinking he understood what I was saying. After saying “thank you” in Japanese, he said “that’s cute” in Japanese. So, I asked him if he spoke Japanese in Japanese. The cook did not understand what I was saying. After asking him again in English, he only said he understood Japanese a little bit, but not so much. I was a bit embarrassed, but also felt proud of my Japanese speaking ability.

🗽Caileeのアメリカ帰省の思い出④🗽

The important part about my trip was attending my sister’s graduation ceremony. I haven’t experienced a Japanese school graduation ceremony yet, so I cannot fully make a comparison about the differences between a ceremony in the United States and in Japan. However, a high school graduation in the United States is very important. During the ceremony, there are teachers and students who make speeches about the graduating class’s accomplishments, their success, and their future. After, the students are called to the stage to receive their diploma and shake the principle’s hand. Their ceremony was one hour and thirty minutes. However, there were around seven hundred students in my sister’s graduating class. There were four hundred students who came to the ceremony to walk and receive their diploma.

After going through Immigration’s and Customs, my mother and father picked me up. I can still recall my mother running so fast to greet me. I ran to her and we both hugged each other so tightly. She told me I lost so much weight, which made me laugh. I ran to my father next, who looked so overjoyed to see me. I haven’t seen my parents in eleven months since I moved to Japan. Once I saw my sister, I felt right at home. My family was all together again!

Before going back to the United States, my flight was supposed to depart from Narita International Airport on Sunday, June 18th. However, my flight was canceled and I had to quickly book a new flight for Monday, June 19th. This delayed my trip back home by one day. While it was unfortunate, I did not feel upset at all. This gave me more time to pack my belongings and to buy some Japanese snacks to bring home to my family. My flight was very good too! There were no issues and I arrived at the Newark Airport in New Jersey, close to New York City.

飛行機がキャンセルとは大変でしたが、その時間で日本のお菓子を買って行けたのはよかったですね！レッスンでCaileeに、ぜひアメリカの思い出を聞いてみてくださいね！

I went to visit my family and friends a few weeks ago in the United States! Using my time off, I went back to see my little sister graduate from high school. It was a promise I made to her and my family before I left for Japan, because it’s an important accomplishment for my sister. I spent 9-days in the United States before going back to Japan. Being back in my home country, I was so happy and felt comfortable being back in a culture I grew up with. However, I was also missing Japan so much and I wanted to return.

本日も、「コーヒー大好きMarshalのおすすめカフェ」をご紹介致します。

コーヒーと日本のレトロなカフェが大好きで、毎週のようにカフェに行っているMarshal。昨年11月にもお気に入りカフェTOP5をこちらのブログで紹介してくれましたが、生徒様からご好評をいただきましたので、第2弾として、最近のおすすめカフェをご紹介致します。ぜひリーディングの練習に挑戦してみてください😊。

This cafe is a hidden gem on the Seibu Shinjuku line. The rapid train doesn’t stop at Nogata station, so I feel like this place is a bit of a secret. This cafe is found down a small side street 2 minutes away from the station, and away from the all the crowds. The inside of this cafe was much larger than I expected, and all the furniture was made of wood. It was incredibly comfortable once we got inside, but the cafe does allow smoking. We ordered dinner, dessert, and coffee. We had their curry rice for dinner, and it tasted fantastic. It felt homemade. For dessert, we were surprised to see oshiruko and anmitsu on their menu! (those are some of my favorite desserts) They both tasted amazing. Finally, the coffee was exactly what I prefer. I really loved this cafe because it was so easy to relax here. There was a decent distance between tables, the temperature was very comfortable, it wasn’t too loud or too crowded, and the staff were quite friendly. I’d really like to go back again.

昨日のブログに引き続き、本日も今週Cydneyが長野県の松本に旅行に行ったそうで、そこでの思い出を書いてくれましたので、後半をご紹介致します。

Unfortunately, on my second day in Matsumoto, I discovered that almost everything was closed on Wednesdays. So I ended up finding whatever cafes were open and cafe-hopping until it was time to take the bus back to Shinjuku. It turns out that Matsumoto is famous for its cafes. There were many cute little places filled with antique furniture.

In the end, I had a nice, relaxing time in Matsumoto. It was a nice getaway from the hustle and bustle of city life here in Kanto, and I hope to visit Kamikouchi next time!

本日は、今週Cydneyが長野県の松本に旅行に行ったそうで、そこでの思い出を書いてくれましたので、ご紹介致します。たくさんあったので、2回に分けてご紹介致します！

🏯Cydneyの松本旅行の思い出①🏯

This week, I took a quick one-night trip to Matsumoto in Nagano Prefecture. I found a nice but cheap hotel there, so even though I knew nothing about the city, I decided to go visit.

When I first got there, I had no idea what to do. So I started with the only thing I knew about Matsumoto: Matsumoto Castle. But I got a bit sidetracked on my way there and ended up doing some window shopping instead. Eventually, a nice old man pointed me in the right direction. Turns out he was a local volunteer tour guide, so he showed me around the main sights of Matsumoto. He took me to the castle, the old Meiji-era elementary school, and an old priest’s house.
