This week, I took the local train up to Ashikaga Flower Park to see its famous wisteria flowers. It was a long trip, nearly three hours, but I arrived just in time for sunset and the nighttime illuminations. Both in the day and at night, the park was beautiful. There were wide walls and long canopies of wisteria you could walk under. It’s hard to say which section was best, but I think the tunnel of white wisteria might have been my favorite. After enjoying the illuminations and the rose garden, I stopped by the garden’s restaurant for some dinner. I splurged on their locally-sourced tomato curry and steak, and I’m so glad I did. The steak practically melted in the mouth and the curry matched it perfectly. After I finished my food, I made one last quick loop around the garden grounds before heading home for the night. It was very crowded and a long trip back, but it was worth the chance to walk through a tunnel of glowing wisteria.
