Day Trips to Otaru
Upon my arrival in Hokkaido, and Japan in general, I had never heard of Otaru but it quickly became a town I heard spoken about almost daily.
After a few weeks here I finally decided I would look it up and take a day trip there to see what all the buzz was about.
I arrived in Otaru with no real goal in mind other than to see the canal; so my itinerary was pretty slim and wide open for adventure.
After, leaving the station I walked straight down the main road and soon was at the canal and was amazed at how many tourists were at this location that, in the states, very few people have ever even heard about.
I then decided I would just walk and see what I was able to find in the city.
I was pleasantly surprised to find several comfortable cafes, beer gardens, shops and a copious amount of delicious food. It was definitely a seafood lover`s paradise.
All in all, I was quite happy with the way my impromptu trip turned out.
I left Sapporo with little expectations and returned with many souvenirs for my family and friends, several photos to post on social media and a very happy stomach.
